PSA: Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge no longer receiving regular security updates
Samsung fans using the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will see fewer security updates coming to their phones going forward. It's the logical move for Samsung, as both flagship smartphones were launched more than three years ago.

The South Korean company releases monthly and quarterly security updates on selected Samsung smartphones, and the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge have been downgraded to the list of devices that will no longer receive regular security updates.

According to Samsung (via AndroidSoul), the security updates that the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will receive going forward will be “subject to change and will be reviewed on a periodic basis.” In other words, these phones will continue to get SOME updates, those that contain fixes for critical bugs.

The only way to avoid getting irregular security updates on these 3-year old phones is to upgrade to newer devices, not necessarily flagships. However, you'll want to pick a brand that releases security updates often since not all phone vendors usually do that.
