Official video promotes the updated rear camera on the Moto Z2 Play

Earlier this morning, Motorola made the Moto Z2 Play official. Besides a smaller battery, a new chipset and some design changes, Motorola also made some improvements to the rear camera on the device. These changes are highlighted in a new video released by the manufacturer today. While the rear camera is now 12MP, down from the original model's 16MP snapper, the aperture has dropped from f/2.0 to f/1.7. That means that the new camera allows 25% more light to enter. You should be able to get better results when taking photos in low-light conditions.

Dual autofocus pixels allow for fast focusing, and laser auto focus keeps your pictures sharp, even when the lighting is not ideal. For selfie fanatics, the front-facing 5MP camera has its own flash, allowing you to take self portraits anywhere and anytime.

The unlocked Moto Z2 Play will be released later this summer from Motorola, priced at $500. A version for Verizon will also be launched this summer.

This Moto Z2 play puts a number of mid rangers to shame. Especially the so called iPhone SE. The Moto Z2 has standard 32 GB of storage with 3-4 the of ram, with 256 GB of expandable storage. Plus the cameras are much better on the Moto Z2 play compared to the iPhone SE. The LTE on the Z2 play is superior with it's cat 13 LTE, verses the iPhone SE's cat 4 LTE. The Moto Z2 battery life puts the iPhone SE battery life to shame. The Z2 play has USB-C with USB 3.0 transfer speeds vs the iPhone SE with it's proprietary lightning port with USB 2.0 transfer speeds. Also don't get me started on the iPhone SE pathetic sub HD display vs the Moto Z2 play AMOLED full HD display. This Moto Z2 play is the same price as the tiny cracker Jack box toy iPhone SE. I didn't even get into all the different Moto mods that are available for the Z2. iPhone SE looks like overpriced junk compared to this Moto Z2 play.

Really now ? But 500$ for a mid-range phone is lame.

You are forgetting about the Moto mods that this smartphone has access to. Last count there was around different mod types. From battery mods that have quick charging and wireless charging, to stereo speaker mods with extra battery, to zoom camera mods, to 70 inch TV mod, to Raspberry PI mods, to developer mods. No other smartphone offers anything close to this.
