Here's the successor to Motorola's cheapest smartphone

Although Motorola could be about to re-enter the flagship smartphone segment, the Chicago-based brand’s primary focus continues to be the budget market. This past February, it announced the updated Moto G7 lineup and now, as corroborated by a leaked render, the company is preparing the Moto E6 as a replacement for last year’s Moto E5 devices.

A tall display and a 13MP rear camera

Taking a look at the smartphone, it’s instantly clear that Motorola has used minimal resources designing it. Up front, the budget offering sports an 18:9 display which is surrounded by thick side bezels, a larger upper bezel that includes the in-ear speaker, and a huge chin which is home to Motorola’s branding. The panel, according to leaked info, sports a diagonal of 5.45-inches. As for the front-facing camera, this is expected to boast a 5-megapixel resolution. The rear one, on the other hand, is a 13-megapixel snapper.

Over the years, Motorola’s smartphones have consistently adopted big, circular camera modules. But in the case of the Moto E6, the Lenovo-owned company is skipping its iconic design in favor of a simpler look which places the camera in the top-left corner. Additionally, despite the presence of a Motorola logo on the rear, a fingerprint scanner isn’t embedded. In fact, the Moto E6 doesn’t sport a fingerprint scanner at all.

Completing the smartphone’s external setup will be a 3.5mm headphone jack on top, a micro-USB port on the bottom, and a power key and volume rocker along the right side.

Motorola Moto E6 specs, release date, pricing

Regarding the internal characteristics of the Moto E6, rumor has it the smartphone will arrive equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430, just like last year’s Moto G6 Play. This will be paired with 2GB of RAM and the choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.

Presumably, the Motorola Moto E6 will launch in the near future at a price of around $150, or potentially lower. An announcement date for the smartphone hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Motorola is expected to hold an event on May 15th where it could potentially introduce the Moto E6.
