Lumia Camera app to be available for all Windows Phone models with Windows 10 for Phone?
A Camera beta app limited for Internal Use was spotted Friday night in the Windows Phone Store. A young man named Jesse Leskinen took out the AppX file and sideloaded it into his Samsung ATIV S. A screenshot taken by Leskinen reveals the typical Lumia Camera look that appeared on the screen. Some features coming with the Lumia Denim firmware update, such as Rich Capture, were not included with the app.

Leskinen feels that the app could be provided for all Windows Phone models, not just Lumia phones, once Windows 10 for Phones is released. Unfortunately, the limited hardware of the ATIV S apparently wouldn't allow any advanced camera features to load.

It could be good news for those with non-Lumia Windows Phone models who have been unable to take advantage of the features in the Lumia Camera app. Microsoft will be holding a Windows Phone 10 event on Wednesday during which we should learn much more about the platform. We could also find out more about a Phone Insider program that will allow Windows Phone users to have early access to the latest build of Windows Phone. It is expected to be similar to the current Windows Insider program.

Sounds like they are testing integration of the camera api's, dont forget there is two apps for windows phones, the integrated camera app every phone gets and the Lumia one. As a result the lumia has always been slower to open etc. Its not the built in camera app at the os layer (hence denim update and fixes). However, this sounds like the lumia api's that allow advance functions will be available to all venders looking to make windows hardware, a good thing, allowing the OEM to not have to worry about developing cost of a great camera app or api.

I hope they're able to bring something as basic as HDR to the Lumia Camera app for all phones...we know HDR is possible on even older devices because other apps do it.

As you know HDR is an app thing. NOT a camera or hardware thing. Currently their rich capture is HDR, capturing multiple exposure images. Right now there are already a few apps in the store that do it, example ProShot....

Yeah, that's my problem with it. It's a software thing, so they should definitely get it figured out for Lumia Camera. I have ProShot and HDR Photo Camera, but I think its in their best interest to be able to handle basic modern camera functions like HDR and Panorama from the standard camera app on the phone.

Its not a problem when you use lenses. For people that dont need it having a lighter faster app is way easier. As well as feeling the clutter away. What they need to do is make the lenses selection as part of the interface vs the menu three dot setting.
