Cases for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 series have emerged, giving us a much better understanding of how the phones in Samsung’s latest lineup will look like. In addition, the Galaxy S27 Pro will apparently ship with a set of cameras that might feel like a step back compared to the Galaxy S27 Ultra and even the Galaxy S26 Ultra before it.

A very reputable insider (translated source) has shared images of phone cases for the Galaxy S27 lineup. According to the leak, the Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27 Plus will retain the same look as the Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Plus, the iconic Samsung vertical triple-camera layout on the rear.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra and the new Galaxy S27 Pro, on the other hand, are getting a refreshed design. Both phones, as many previous reports have also claimed, will feature much larger rear camera islands similar to the ones that are found on the current iPhone 18 Pro and last year’s iPhone 17 Pro.
Unlike Apple’s phones, however, the Galaxy S27 Ultra and the Galaxy S27 Pro seem to feature the flash near the camera setup on the rear instead of at the far end of the island.

Galaxy S27 Pro camera falls behind Galaxy S27 Ultra
While the appeal of the new Galaxy S27 Pro seems to come from it being a smaller phone that is just as capable as the Galaxy S27 Ultra, Samsung is making some compromises regardless.

For starters, the Galaxy S27 Pro will not feature an S Pen unlike its larger counterpart. Secondly, the Pro model won’t come with the Privacy Display feature, either, which is Samsung’s newest and most novel tool for its Ultra line.
In addition, according to the report above, the Galaxy S27 Pro is not going to have the same camera setup as the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Instead, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 50 MP 5x telephoto lens, the Galaxy S27 Pro will use the same 10 MP 3x telephoto lens that was also on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
However, it’s also worth noting that the Galaxy S27 Ultra is most likely dropping the 3x telephoto camera according to countless reports. So both phones are missing out on something, you just get to decide which one is a dealbreaker for you.
More expensive phones with less to show for it

Prices are going to go up yet again across the board next year for the Galaxy S27 series. The memory crisis continues to make things more difficult for both smartphone manufacturers as well as consumers.
In fact, Samsung is drastically scaling back production of its flagship smartphones because there simply isn’t any profit in it any longer, according to the company. This is likely another reason for the price hikes coming next year.
Unfortunately, Samsung is also removing features from its devices while it jacks up prices. The Galaxy S27 Ultra, as mentioned above, is losing the 3x telephoto. Meanwhile, the new Galaxy S27 Pro — which feels like a way to attract more customers by offering almost Ultra-level features at a lower price point — is not getting a 5x telephoto camera.
The Galaxy Tab S12 series that just came out also got rid of the anti-reflective coating across its displays because Samsung says that there was low demand for it. However, both new tablets have also seen a price hike as well, and customers are understandably not pleased.

Galaxy S27 Pro doesn’t seem worth it to me
The Galaxy S26 Ultra might be a better deal next year instead. | Image by PhoneArena
There will probably be a decent market for the Galaxy S27 Pro, but it just doesn’t seem like it will be worth the cost to me. You don’t get the S Pen, you don’t get the Privacy Display, you get a worse camera setup and you also get a much smaller battery than the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which is finally ascending past the 5,000 mAh barrier.
However, I do think that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will be a pretty sweet phone. Sweet enough, at least, to upstage the iPhone during its 20th anniversary next year.
