LG Star could launch as LG Optimus 2X to promote its dual-core power
We have shown you the LG Star in action and have reported on the specs of this sizzling hot candybar handset. From the 4 inch screen to the dual-core processor and the 8MP camera that shoots 1080p video, this is indeed a Super Star device that is part of LG's Optimus line.

LG's country-mate Samsung will soon be launching the Google Nexus S that has pretty similar specs to the LG Star except that it lacks the dual-core processor. So how best to let everyone know the difference? According to a press release from LG, when the Star hits the States, it could end up with a name that lets everyone know about the dual-core chip under the hood. Thus, the LG Optimus 2X name is born. The phone is expected to come to market with Android 2.2 with an upgrade to Gingerbread coming afterward.

While the LG Star should be launched in Korea first, it should hit multiple U.S.carriers in 2011. Speculation centers around a February release from T-Mobile. And the manufacturer claims that the dual-core processor allows you to browse twice as fast and play games 5 times as fast as your current device. Check out the videos below to see how fast the LG Optimus 2X flies. In the browser test, the page comes up almost immediately.
