Install the Gingerbread QWERTY onto your Android 2.2 or 2.1 device
There is no denying that the Android 2.3 upgrade is not going to make major changes to your Froyo powered handset. But one place where Gingerbread will be making its mark will be with the new keyboard that Google has developed for the upgrade. The good news is that thanks to the guys at Xda-developers, you can download the QWERTY on your handset even if it is not rooted. All you need is a  phone running Android 2.2 or 2.1 to use the multi-touch Gingerbread keyboard.

Click on the source link from your phone's browser(make sure you are on Wi-Fi if possible) and select either Android 2,2 or 2.1. Download the new software and then change the settings to the Gingerbread keyboard and you're finished. Thanks to some new shortcuts for spelling corrections and punctuations, you should find the new QWERTY to run faster and more smoothly than the current Android keyboard.
