Google Pixel 2 shows the largest bump in activations during the Christmas holiday weekend
Despite recent reports revealing multiple issues with the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL (mostly with the screen and speaker), the two handsets enjoyed a surprisingly strong Christmas weekend and showed more growth in activations than the Apple iPhone X and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. The percentage increase is computed by subtracting the number of activations from the Christmas holiday weekend compared to the average number from the prior three weekends. A phone is considered to be activated once it starts opening and using apps.

At the top of the list is the Google Pixel 2, which had a bump of 38.41% in activations last weekend. The Google Pixel 2 XL is second, with a 31.41% hike over its recent weekend hook-ups. The Apple iPhone X takes third place with a 28.72% increase, followed by the Apple iPhone 8 (17.7%) and the Apple iPhone 8 Plus (13.98%) to round out the top five. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 are 9th and 10th with 9.5% and 2.78% hikes in activations, respectively. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were helped by a number of promotions at Verizon, Best Buy, Project Fi and in the Google Store.

Localytics also discovered that while the Christmas weekend was better for iPhone sales this year compared to last year, the holiday weekend that just passed could not beat out the 2015 activation numbers. Lastly, the analytics firm reported that the iPhone X now makes up 5.28% of active iPhone models. The Apple iPhone 7 (19.31%) is the most widely used variant of Apple's smartphone followed by the Apple iPhone 6s (16.86%) and Apple iPhone 6 (14.42%).

We apologize for the previous version of this story that was based on a misunderstanding.
