Apple AirPods 2: price, release date, features and news

In 2017's iPhone announcement, Apple depicted a new wireless charging case for its AirPods that will go with its AirPower mat, but neither the wireless charger nor the case have materialized just yet. Since the case should launch together with AirPower, if Apple wants users to take full advantage of the wireless charging craze that is sweeping its gadgets, we are rounding up all the rumors about the inevitable AirPods update that may be announced as soon as next month.

Apple AirPods 2 specs and features

Longer battery life, always-on Siri, water-resistance, and noise-cancelation are in the AirPods future

The long wait for AirPods 2 might be over soon and if the information we have available for them is true, it will be well worth it. The improvements implemented in the new pair are far from insignificant. Starting wi

Apple AirPods 2: price, release date, features and news
We can start with Barclays' analysts that reported that the set will feature some sort of water-proofing as well as an elaborate noise-cancellation system. Both of these are available on existing earbuds, some of which cost far less than the AirPods, which makes the two features a logical inclusion for the AirPods 2.

On top of that, Apple's awesome cable-less Bluetooth earbuds are expected to introduce a Siri agent that will always be listening for your "safe word" command. Another feature common in third-party headphones today that highlights how needed an update of the AidPods is.

Another important upgrade will reportedly be swapping the W1 chip design that is in the current AirPods with the updated W2 Bluetooth connectivity chip that now provides the Bluetooth 5.0 connection for the Apple Watch 4. This homebrew silicon halves the power draw of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity compared to W1, so we might be looking at even longer battery life from the upgraded AirPods that may be available just few short weeks from now.

Of course, since the AirPods are primarily meant for music, Apple is bringing some improvements to the sound quality. Mainly, a better performance in the lows, or simply put, better bass. This likely means an overall redesign of the drivers, which should lead to a better sound quality for the rest of the frequencies as well.

What isn't expected to change, however, is the design of the AirPods. The new generation is rumored to have an almost identical shape as the original ones, which points to a reverse compatibility of the wireless charging case. If that turns out to be true, it means that owners of the older earbuds will be able to buy a wireless charging case separately and enjoy the added convenience. Don't worry, however, there will be a way to tell the AirPods 2 apart...

A new finish for the AirPods 2, both functional and stylish

At last, your Apple earbuds will match well with your tux

Apple is expected to finally give AirPods fans what they've been requesting for so long: black AirPods. Yes, you'll no longer have to pay exuberant amounts of money just so you can get AirPods that aren't white.

Another external change that sources are swearing is coming to the AirPods 2 is a new, "grippy" coating. This is meant to make the AirPods 2 more stable in your ear and less likely to slip out and fall. We can't imagine anyone being unhappy with that, but it will be interesting to test if it's a noticeable improvement over the previous gen.

Apple AirPods 2 price and release date

Spring 2019 to bring blossoms and AirPods alike, but will we see a price hike?

For some, the list of new features might have brought joy, but others probably saw a potential drawback from packing so much tech into the AirPods 2. We're talking, of course, about a potential rise in price.

Some sources say the new pair might come with a new price, more specifically, $199, a $40 bump on the current ones. If this is the case, then it's possible that Apple will continue to sell the original AirPods at a reduced price, as a "budget" option.

The other possibility is that the AirPods 2 will come at $159 and replace the current model altogether. Both scenarios are similar to what Apple has done with other products in the past, so until we have more credible information, it's anyone's guess.

As for the release date, everything right now points to the next few months. However, Apple traditionally hosts a "Special Event" in March to reveal new products. There are already rumors that the event will be on March 25. Unless there have been further delays, this is likely when AirPods 2 will be announced.

Yes that is true, but it does offer convience that is only unique for pairing with iPhones. I really didn't like the initial design of it, but when I got to experience it first hand, it was really good.

I don't get this whole instant connect advantage, I have a pair of headphones that connect automatically to my phone as soon as I turn on Bluetooth. No other steps needed

Strange how every one of its competitors use an in ear design whereas these kind of just rest on the outer portion of the ear.

It makes you wonder what use the noise cancellation even has. One of the most heard complaints about those Airpods is how badly they fit in ears and how easy they fall out. What good is noise cancellation when you've got so much ambient noise leaking past the poorly fitted Airpods. Form over function, the Apple way.

Its amazing how the folks who do not own the product complains the most on blogs. Why is that? There is such a thing as return, if you own a product and do not like it, just return it and get your money back. Why some here have issues with others deciding what's best for them with their own money is beyond me.

"One of the most heard complaints about those Airpods is how badly they fit in ears and how easy they fall out" You propably mix this with earpods, people actually say opposite about AirPods, they are surprised how well those stay in ear. The reason is because they are wireless, it makes huge difference.

Exactly I was a Jaybird man.One night while I was charging them and pulled the earbuds out of the Iphone box and was amazed how well they sounded never ever used them and had phone over a year. After that went to Bestbuy and purchased the air pods best decision I made sound quality and always charged up and the easy pairing is unbeatable.Jaybirds are in the box now lol

I much prefer this style. I cannot STAND the in-ear type that I have to shove into my ear canal. They are uncomfortable and it amplifies all the sounds in my own body...breathing, chewing, swallowing. I don't want to hear that!

Half the asking price? Don't be ridiculous! You can get better TWS for tenth of the price. Pairing "argument" is really funny, since you pair your headphones once ... and never again.

Why do they not include wings with these? Wings cost dirt cheap on AliExpress etc. They should include a pair considering this price.

Give me decent sound quality and I will consider buying them. Inteligent way to control volume and skip track would be great, but I know they won't be brave to implement it. Decent sound quality.

I know, I mean full controls - volume, skip, etc. + If they are decent, I will not use them with iPhone, maybe iPad Pro ... but probably with my "daily" driver. Decent sound is my primary demand, the rest I could try to live with.

They do have middle of the road sound quality surprisingly. And they dont fall out of most peoples ears even when tilting the head dramatically, jogging, work out in the gym. But for a few people they fit terrible. Why people love them is that you can use one of the pair at a time for phone calls. Some of us are on the phone a lot. If the battery gets weak then pull the other ear bud out of the charging case and it activates (even in mid call) and put the dying bud in the charging case. All without pressing any buttons. Ready for music? Put the second bud in and it automatically converts to stereo. Oh, and it doesnt use one of those awful micro-usb plugs for charging.

OMG how many articles can anyone produce on a rumour. Only on an apple product could that happen.
