Toshiba's FOLIO 100 tablet ships to Europe

The FOLIO 100 offers what the Samsung Galaxy Tab can not: a more tailored experience for the tablet medium. While the Galaxy Tab will receive Android OS updates, the FOLIO offers other advantages as well. For one thing, the FOLIO features an integrated HDMI port, without needing a peripheral dock.
Other features include 16BG of memory, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, an SD slot, and optional 3G capability. It also includes a 1.3MP camera for video conferencing. The device ships with the Opera Mobile browser, the Documents to Go suite, and the FBReader e-book application. Owners can download additional apps and media from the Toshiba Market Place, which can be seen in the video below.
There's no mention of when it might arrive in North America, but we'll try our best to be patient.

I entirely agree with john. I have a Folio since last november and I am completely disappointed. Actually it already landed at the bottom of a drawer as there are almost no apps for it. You are supposed to download your apps from Toshiba Market, but 99% of what is there (and there isn't much) is either useless or has very poor quality. On top of it the response time is not so fast, the buttons are not responsive and the viewing angle is narrow. Probably the worst product that Toshiba ever built.

The Toshiba Folio (AS100) has really impressive hardware but the software is a disaster. There is a fix for this though that will produce a very solid and responsive tablet. Dexter's Mod for the Folio doubles the performance and introduces full Google Android Market Place to the device, flash player and many other benefits. Unfortunately it cannot fix the poor viewing angle but it does sort the software side out which gives you a very nice tablet at low cost. My wife just bought one now in Malaysia for US$250 which included the TV Kit (+ remote), Screen Protector and Leather Cover Case. Really not a bad buy! It NEEDS to be modded / rooted though.
