Samsung's VR Manager companion app leaks: a walkthrough for Sammy's virtual reality headset

Just as we told you, Samsung might be pretty close to reveal its own modular, virtual-reality headset, dubbed Gear VR, which is being developed in partnership with Oculus VR. It seems that the rumors regarding the Gear VR have not been pulled from the air of reality. SamMobile, which is a fairly reliable source of anything Samsung-related, somehow got hold of the companion app for the Gear VR. Said application connects the headworn goggles to your Galaxy smartphone and guides you through the former's setup/calibration process.

Although you can't do much with the app at the moment, it reveals some of the functionalities and the features that the purported headgear will probably sport. Currently, the app successfully connects to Samsung's servers and downloads several apps that will complement your Gear VR experience – VR Panorama, VR Cinema, and HMT Manager. The first two won't be of any use right now, but the latter, which is an early version of the Gear VR Manager, reveals some curious features.

Apparently, Samsung has outfitted the Gear VR with a touchpad and a back button. In addition, once you've paired your Galaxy device with the virtual-reality headgear, the phone becomes completely unusable – neither its touchscreen nor the physical buttons work.

It seems that controlling the device will be procured via the navigation buttons of the Gear VR. It will be fully supporting the S Voice app and will also provide the Gear VR enthusiast with a real-time video feed of the “outside world”. Speaking of the real world, a so-called Warning Alert will notify the user that they've been in the virtual world every hour.
