Motorola CLIQ, CLIQ XT and BACKFLIP now set for Android 2.1 upgrade in early Q4
Share:
While we already reported that the Motorola DEVOUR was not going to be upgraded past the Android 1.6 build that the phone was launched with by Verizon, the official language from Motorola says that the phone will remain on Android 1.6 "for the best combined hardware and software experience"-a rather nice way to say that the phone doesn't meet the necessary specs for upgrade.
Now that owners of the first-gen Motorola DROID are kickin' with Flash 10.1, and with the sequel model loaded with Froyo and Flash Player out of the box, that leaves the giant DROID X left to receive an OTA upgrade among Motorola's DROID handsets. The latest word from the Schaumburg based company is that DROID X owners will get their Froyo in the late Summer. Unlike the two-part upgrade that first-gen DROID owners had to endure, owners of the "X" should be able to download Flash Player after just one upgrade.

something tells me "dont hold your breath" on that cliq update. it is late Q3, and oct is "early Q4" if it were comming in the next few weeks, they would have said something. time to upgrade to a vibrant and just be done with it.

You know, "late summer" is over in about two weeks. Fall officially begins Sept. 23. So hopefully what Moto is saying is "before the end of September." Even if not, though, I still enjoy my X. It works amazingly well.

i went from a mytouch with 1.6 to a cliq xt with 1.5. at first i didnt think it would be a big deal until i actually realized how few apps i use have support for 1.5, as well as my loss of voice navigation. this will be a welcome addition whenever it comes to my phone since i havent been able to find a single root for a cliq xt, only the cliq.
