Microsoft says update to Windows 10 Mobile is coming soon

Microsoft says update to Windows 10 Mobile is coming soon
If you're not a Windows Insider, the prospect of updating your Windows Phone 8.1 powered handset to Windows 10 Mobile probably has you excited at the thought of running a brand new OS on the unit. Back in October, it appeared as though the update would take place in December. By last month, it was clear that Windows 10 Mobile wouldn't see the light of day until early 2016.

Wireless carrier Vodafone Australia said that it is waiting for "bits" of the OS to test, and expects this to happen by the middle of this month. Another mobile operator, Movistar Spain, now expects to push out Windows 10 Mobile at the end of this month.

Tweets sent out today from Microsoft's Lumia Support Twitter account reveal that the Windows 10 Mobile update will be taking place "soon." If we put together the comments made by the carriers with the tweets disseminated by Microsoft, it would appear that the Windows 10 Mobile update will start making their way to Windows Phone 8.1 powered handsets before the middle of next month.

According to the Lumia support page, those handsets receiving Windows 10 Mobile must have at least 8GB of internal storage. In addition, "not every phone will support all possible Windows 10 features. Certain features and experiences will require more advanced future hardware." Only phones loaded with Lumia Denim (OS version 8.10.14219.341) can be updated. Go to Settings > extras+info to check the current software release on your phone. To see what OS version your phone is currently running, go to Settings > about > more information.

We're working to make Windows 10 available to eligible Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 as an upgrade. If your Lumia is eligible for the upgrade, we'll let you know when it's ready. 8 GB of internal memory required. Like any upgrade to a new operating system, not every phone will support all possible Windows 10 features. Certain features and experiences will require more advanced future hardware."-Lumia support page

using win 10 since public day one on a 1520, 930, and now 640xl, only one build was bad. Buggy here and there, yes, but has been a reliable daily driver for, videos, games, office etc.

If this doesn't get better I'm jumping ship to android ,iOS, blackberry or go back to symbian.

Back to Symbian? There's very little to miss from Symbian, except for being able to select the bands of my network( like 1800/1900 mhz type of deal) but if anything, try out blackberry, I have a passport second to my 1520 and absolutely enjoy it, I especially love to fast forward through YouTube commercials and have youtube running on the background, blackberry OS leaves my old galaxy note in well another galaxy, android has a lot of potential, but Google purposely dumbs it down, making it into a money making machine with tons of adds, which really makes sense to have the world's largest operating system turn into a giant money making machine.

And that's fine by me, obvious response from a noob that created their account 3 months ago to not know any better and just follow the main stream.

Obviously They Still Have BB10 Phones Like The Classic But They Aren't Making Any New Ones.... Or Are They?

Of course they are, they don't just have an unlimited number of classics laying around, or do they? Factory is stil making all of them, especially the Porsche edition passport, being that it's made upon request.

Sounds like at&t has a lot of explaining to do in regards to that, I haven't bought a Lumia that's carrier branded in years, but like I said give blackberry a try, they have cheap blackberries going for 150$ that work amazingly.

It is true. I have used a Lumia 730 with the preview build, and bugs and lags aside, it looks far more cluttered than the Windows phone 8.1, which kind of defeats the purpose of buying a windows phone. Also, all of the apps of windows phone 8.1 do not work on the preview build. I hate to say this, but in my opinion, Windows phone 8.1 looked far more cleaner than windows 10 preview.

sounds like you are a phone killer. I have the 1520 on day one with the preview build. Only one was bad. Same with a 1020, 930, and now a 640xl. All have been solid. In fact two 1520's running win10 right now.

I took the 950 for a test drive in the store, everything worked for me, then again it was a simple 30min test. Nothing of all day usage. Considering the crap I see on android all day as my daily job, I smile every single day going home with an OS I don't seem to have issues with. Maybe I am just the crazy nut job in the room.

That doesn't mean its all roses, but I will take a weird wifi glitch over a Samsung update bricking sms, or google newsstand update bricking calls...the list goes on and on, especially for the latest round of LG blunders. Yea I am ok with quirks.

I'm definitely not trolling these issues are true makes my phone unuseable calls not getting through missing messages that Initself renders a phone useless not including other faults.

I work for a carrier, many things cause missed calls and missed sms.

Did you know right now, a google/Samsung update bricked calls/sms from getting to the phones, s6 and s6 edges some note 5's. Did you know this has gone on for weeks. It took weeks to find out it was VoLTE and still no fix yet. Did you know LG released an update that also bricked sms/calls. Took again weeks. Did you know there was an S3 update that bricked calls to the point the carrier literally denied warranty exchanges and told customers to deal with it...only fix was to constantly flush the cache from the phone app (eventually fixed took over 3 months). HTC got hit with a google newsstand update that bricked calls/sms. Google had an update that made LG's useless and keeps causing google search to crash upon any app event, like going into settings. The list is so long its funny.

Seriously, you want verifiable issues, come do my job. After doing my job seeing people on android is like self torture. I joke about it, but there is a reason my team has willingly slowly went away from android, there is die hard users on both ends, but the ones that 'flow' with it...usually end up with an apple device. Right now we have a tech who is on his 7th android, he is fed up and going with apple, and it is not one android device he has had a nexus 6, note 4, HTC m8/m9, Z1s, z3, he just ordered an iPhone 6s. Why? because of the 15 apple phones in our team, not a single one has issues. I tried windows, but he needs some apps we simply don't have.

I'm going to give it another try btw I know of a few people who've had issues with iPhones ,I just want to have my phone working properly so I can enjoy using it I can't download with tube mp3 downloader and with uc browser things that didn't happen in windows 8 you must agree the a flagship should not have these and all the other previously mentioned issues ( screen freeze, random reboots notification issues amongst others) and if so should've been addressed with a phone update ,also tried my wife's iPhone6,nice device but not my cuppa tea I will be sending it to be seen and replaced if necessary with the same product anyway let's see how it goes.

I agree, but other OSs have had their issues, too, I am the one that has to deal with all new growing pains when 4.4 hit, when 5.0 hit when 6.0 hit, when ios 9 hit (still has issues). As a side note, it is not my job to make fun of people who don't use windows etc, I just the need to kinda point out that its not solely on the device. And that no OS is free of what you describe, especially Android in the last 6 months dealing with the exact issue you call making it useless...on my carrier that is.

Having regard to what you've explained I contacted the shop I purchased the phone they have agreed I try the phone for a couple of weeks and if it's software related it should be addressed by subsequent updates in the event of just being a faulty device they would get it sent to Microsoft and get it replaced if need be with a same device. Thanks for your insight into these issues.
