Google Nexus 6 already out of stock on the first day of pre-orders

Google Nexus 6 already out of stock on the first day of pre-orders
Just as expected, today Google started taking pre-orders for the Nexus 6 via Google Play. However, if you didn’t already place an order, right now you can’t do it anymore, as the huge Nexus is sold out. Out of stock. Gone.

Those who managed to pre-order a Nexus 6 have been informed by Google that the handset would start shipping on November 21. As you may already know, the new Nexus isn’t as affordable as the Nexus 4 or Nexus 5, carrying a premium price tag. The 32 GB version of the smartphone costs $649, while the 64 GB one can be yours for $699.

All major US carriers will also sell the Google Nexus 6, though for now they do not take pre-orders.

Manufactured by Motorola, the Nexus 6 is the first in the series to sport a 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD) display, and obviously also the first to run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. While some customers are complaining about the size of the Nexus 6 - since not everyone enjoys carrying a 6-inch device around - a Google exec recently said that, once you get used to a phablet, you’re probably not going to want to go back to a smaller device.

Did you get the chance to pre-order a Nexus 6? Or do you intend to buy one at some point?

Had there been a 5.2 inch version of the nexus6, it would have been more successful....people don't love phablets as much as the phones...Samsung's flagship phones sell more than the notes....the 6 sells more than the 6+.

Didnt iPhone 6 and 6+ sell almost the same according to some article before? Also Asian countries love phablets, so there they sell much more.

No...the 6 sells more...and the same thing happens with Samsung's devices and other companies' devices.HTC one m7 was quite popular but most of the people don't even know about the max.

Wrong. The 6 and 6+ have sold equally in the U.S. and the 6+ has sold more than the 6 in other parts of the world. Apple has struggled to keep up with the demand for the 6+. This is well documented.

The 6 is selling more...there are enough reports about it...there is a 6+shortage because they manufactured fewer iPhone 6+ units when compared to the 6.(There were a lot more 6es than 6+es)
If u still don't want to believe it...let's talk about other companies... Samsung sells more s series phones than the notes, the same thing happened with other OEMS like HTC.
You may like a phablet...but phones are more popular, its a fact.

I love Android, but are you trying to compare the sales of a single android phone to the recently launched iphone? I hope I just misread.

Lucky for you.

How many phones do you have now that you've made pre-order? If I'm not mistaken you said last time that you ordered the Note 4 and now the Nexus 6, hmmm!

You are mistaken... I never ever mentioned that I ordered the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. If you read anything I post you would know that. I have the Note 3 & to me the Note 4 is not much different.

That's why I just pre-ordered Google Nexus 6, because it's different, larger & has the stereo front speakers.

5.2 or 5.5 would take this phone to the next level for most of the worlds android users

I'm not a hater by the way and I plan on getting one, but let's stay logical here. No one doubted the phone would sell.

Actually that's not necessarily true. Orders were open for less than 5 seconds (literally) and were never available for 64GB. It likely was an early misfire and they will begin to be sold (sometime) later today.

Hopefully. I also have suspicions that in order to distribute these to carriers Google had to limit supply on Google Play.

An unfortunate possibility.

This is story is split milk. An announcement when the Nexus 6 went on sale would have been helpful. Telling us over an hour after they sold out is very late to the game. I'm monitoring other sources regarding this now.

For any Android announcement you have to go to an Android site. Sites like Droid-life, Android Police and Android Central are always monitoring that stuff.

1. Apple has nothing do with anything here

2. When Apple does sell out, we are given numbers. And if we are honest and unbiased, Apple has pretty decent inventory numbers.

The reason is because Myx is blindly loyal to Apple, if this had been Apple he would've said something to the effect of "Apple comes through again." And if we are honest, we don't know Apple's inventory numbers.

How do you figure that? Demand might be outstripping supply even if demand is relatively low. We need numbers.

So when a popular phone by Apple sells out, it's more demand than supply.

But when a popular phone by Google sells out, it's an example of poor execution.

You can't be so stupid that you don't fathom the hypocrisy here. And if you are...well, have fun banging your reply out with your forehead.

You want proof Sniggly, go look at the resale prices for iPhones. Then go look at the resale value for past Nexus phones.

I'm not saying the Nexus 6 selling out isn't because of demand but do you really think I'm going to believe it's because the supply is that short?

I thought you would've figured that out but I think I've given you too much credit.

The resale value of iPhones has nothing to do with lack of supply. There's a million used iPhones for sale at any given time at all quality levels. Their resale value is purely due to the fact that they're iPhones and desired by people.

The fact is that brand new iPhones, and this brand new Nexus, are both in really high demand, and for good reason. Maybe Google and Motorola didn't properly conceive of the demand for the product, but with pretty much everyone bitching that the phone was too big prior to launch, why would they have super high expectations anyway?

Unless you have evidence that shows that Motorola only stocked, like, a thousand Nexuses, or that the ordering system was being run on a 5 year old Compaq on a dialup connection, or some other concrete screwup, you can't declare that Google and Motorola screwed the pooch simply because demand exceeded their initial supply.

posted on 30 Oct 2014, 13:26

63. Mxyzptlk (Posts: 10492; Member since: 21 Apr 2012)

The resale value of iPhones still being high shows you that demand for iPhones is very high. You can deny it all you want, but an iPhone will have more demand than supply compared to any other phone.

It's just poor execution by Google. If they wanted it to sell well, release a proper preorder period and not a half assed one like they've been doing since the Nexus 4.

Lol, oh yes I can. They've been doing this bs since the Nexus 4. Motorola botched that little contest for the 360 for which I recall you getting mad at me for pointing it out.

I'm not saying there isn't demand for the new Nexus but for them to say demand was so great that they had to pull preorders for it is ludicrous.
