T-Mobile rep says the carrier "pulled a fast one" forcing employees to scramble to get paid

A T-Mobile Mobile Expert says that customers should be mad at T-Mobile, not the carrier's reps.

T-Mobile subscribers have had their share of bad experiences with the carrier's Mobile Experts revealed on these pages. We've passed along their stories about getting crammed by the carrier's reps and walking out of a T-Mobile store with accessories they didn't ask for. This not only generated higher commissions for the sales crew, it also allowed them to meet certain monthly performance goals known as metrics.

T-Mobile rep says T-Mobile is to blame for its "customer-last" environment

These articles were written from the customer's point of view. Today, we look at these situations from the Mobile Expert's eyes. Reddit user TurnFew5442 wrote his plea on the social media site using the headline, "Stop treating your Mobile Expert like garbage."

While this Mobile Expert did say that "T-Mobile has some of the most horrendous customers I have ever worked with," he adds that he doesn't blame them. Actually, he puts the blame on his employer, which in this case is T-Mobile. He works in a T-Mobile Experience store which is owned and operated by the carrier.

T-Mobile is giving reps impossible performance goals to meet each month

The Mobile Expert wrote, "Just know most of us (especially at Experience stores) truly want the best for you as a customer, but we are being asked to meet impossible standards and it’s directly impacting customer experience." What he is talking about is the performance goals that T-Mobile reps must meet every month. We have explained these metrics many times before and if a rep doesn't meet them, he could lose his job.

A couple of years ago we showed you a leaked list of performance goals that a rep at an unnamed corporate store would have to meet each month. One key metric explains why some T-Mobile reps secretly add things like screen protectors, chargers, wireless earbuds, and more to the purchase of a new phone. The leaked metrics list from 2024 said that reps should strive to sell three accessories for each phone sold.

If you are a salesperson working at T-Mobile, and the carrier tells you that you should strive to sell three accessories for each phone you sell or else you might be fired, what are you going to do? Many Mobile Experts feel pressure to cram their customer by adding these accessories to their invoice without their knowledge.

This is why the salesman who wrote the post says that T-Mobile customers should not treat reps so badly since they are under pressure from the carrier to meet their performance goals or lose their jobs. In his post, he notes that recent changes made by T-Mobile have left reps having to deal with more potential customers every day as they click on websites, make calls, or click on ads. Despite this, the carrier has made it harder for Mobile Experts to convert these interactions into sales.

T-Mobile's actions are reportedly costing its reps as much as $600 per month

The Redditor/T-Mobile rep made it clear in his post that these changes are costing T-Mobile's salespeople real money, as much as $600 each month. The Mobile Experts feel this and it has resulted in lower customer satisfaction scores. He says that T-Mobile has created a "customer-last" environment and recommends that customers demand answers.

What makes this so shocking is how T-Mobile was once very pro-customer when it was run by its former CEO John Legere. During those years Legere led an amazing turnaround that saw T-Mobile become the most innovative and fastest growing carrier in the US.

T-Mobile is a shadow of its former self

With its current transition to a digital-first wireless provider, forcing customers to use the T-Life app to handle most transactions, T-Mobile is now just a shadow of its former self.

One last thought. Why should customers treat their Mobile Experts better when the customers are the ones being hurt by the actions made by rogue reps. I would assign the blame to both T-Mobile for putting too much pressure on the reps practically giving them no way out but to cram their customers?

Yes, those reps who do resort to illegal acts such as cramming are also responsible. If they can't cut it as a rep without having to sell customers products and services they didn't request, perhaps they should be in a new line of work.

Customers should not have to worry that they are going to be ripped off every time they visit a T-Mobile store.
