AnTuTu reports the 10 fastest phones for Q1: we have a new winner

Ever since the popular synthetic benchmark for mobile gear AnTuTu went cross-platform, it's been releasing quarterly statistics derived from the millions of handsets that go through its benchmarking paces each day. The 2015 ranking saw the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with their potent A9 chipset beat the pack by a large margin, but in the first half of this year the chairs on the benchmark deck have seemingly been rearranged.

We have the introduction of Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 to thank for that, and, needless to say, the phones with those chipsets are now occupying the top places in AnTuTu's Q1 benchmark ranking. You may think that it would be the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge that have shot their way to the top of the benchmark mountain, but these two handsets are actually vying for second place, while the best performer is Xiaomi's newest Mi 5 powerhouse.

Well, powerhouse is maybe not a suitable nickname, as the Mi 5 sports a 5" 1080p display, which might explain why it beats the Quad HD-equipped S7 by a tad. The third place is still for Apple's A9 in the iPhone 6s, and the difference between this chipset and the ones in the Galaxy S7 is pretty negligible, too.
