Android still the top OS dog, has double the share of iOS
The summer has passed, fall is officially here and it’s time to recap the state of mobile operating systems. As of August, Android continues its domination on the US smartphone market accounting for 54% of the impressions on Millenial’s ad network.

The green robot actually slipped from 61% in July, but still has nearly double the share of iOS, the closest runner-up with 28%, up from 21% last the month before that. An overwhelming 72% of all impressions come from smartphones.

You might wonder why such a huge difference between July and August’s results, as there were hardly any huge device launches during those two months, but the reason is elsewhere.

Only in August, Millenial has started counting both smartphones and tablets, and understandably Apple’s iPad gave Cupertino a push as it dominates the market. RIM’s BlackBerry ended up third with 13% of all impressions.

When it comes to phone makers, the Apple continued its dominance having a 23.2% share, but what’s interesting is that HTC popped up second with 16.3%, confirming that the Taiwanese phone maker is really getting traction lately. Samsung ended up third capturing a 14.6% share.

The iPhone remained the most popular handset, followed by the LG Optimus and Motorola Droid.

This is totally not a surprise. Just proves that a lot more people are happier with their android device.

Not at what it proves.

Android OS is an open OS that is on many devices Apple only has one so how why even make this news? Actually this looks bad for Android because they shouls have a much larger shar than this. Apple has 28% of the share with only 1 device.

not just one device. this is including tablets on the 28%

It includes ALL ios devices, that means:

iphones 1, 2, 3, 4
ipods, 1, 2, 3, 4
ipads 1, 2

the share of iphone 4 by itself is MUCH MUCH smaller than 28%, look at the chart:

It's only 13%. So, 28% - 13% = 15% of the traffic comes from ipads and ipods. Of the 13%, that also include iPhone 3GS, since Apple is still making and selling those. The actual iPhone 4 share is even smaller than 13%!!!

That means in that chart iOS consists of the iPhone 1-4, iPad 1-2, and possibly all iPod Touchs.

You need to stop using that argument on the fact that Android OS has so many devices while Apple "only" has 1. Apple can make more varieties, they just chose not to. That defense is flawed on its own.

Apple hater here, saying that including the iPhones 1-4 both iPads, and the iTouches, Android is still available on many more devices.

However is it really about popularity or should it be about which OS suits the INDIVIDUAL best and lets the consumer feel OK about which company they give their hard earned dollars to.

So what if Android has more devices?
It was a direct response to iKingTrust's "Apple has 28% of the share with only 1 device."
I respond when there's ignorance in user-posts, not into a battle of loyalty between brands.

We'are talking OS here not device dumbo..

Not one device... How many are still being sold? Verizon has 4 phones, AT&T has 3 phones and that is not including ipads

im done wasting my time on this. You all know iOS is the best. Not even the biggest Apple hater can deny iOS. You might not like Apple but iOS is amazing. SO f@@##ing what you cant customize? Jailbreak and get on with life.

My jailbreak allows me to customize more than any OS. Thank you.

No.... it actually doesn't. iOS was great 2-3 years ago, but now it's just "uhh, you again?"
It's actually still one of the most limited customization after JB.

Really? Your iOS is the best, yet you have to break your beloved iOS user agreement to do what you want to do.

I can definitly understand why your done wasteing time. The amount of contradictions that your head has to ignore would be quite tireing.

iKingTrust, facts are facts & even if you jailbreak an iPhone the customization is VERY limited. I guess you have never jailbreaked your iPhone huh? If you have then you would know that fact. I helped jailbreak my buddies iPhone 4 so it would work on T-Mobile & you know what he STILL can't do a fraction of what I can on Android. SO "im done wasting my time on this. You all know iOS is the best. Not even the biggest Apple hater can deny iOS. You might not like Apple but iOS is amazing. SO f@@##ing what you cant customize? Jailbreak and get on with life." Dude you sound like a little girl who is talking smack while hiding behind your mothers skirt! lol

WEAK like the girl on your avatar! lol

Not everyone cares about superficial customization.

Newest android updates have made the OS better, and with some lessons thought and some promises made things could keep steady

Where is galaxy s2

10. henrickrw posted on 23 Sep 2011, 07:42

I assume that ourr Galaxy S2 is not there because the forecast projection is of August, but difineetly the GS2 is the best for now.

6. remixfa posted on 23 Sep 2011, 06:50 3 1

before anyone starts complaining about this phone or that, this is obviously a US chart. Huge sellers like the worldwide SGS1 and 2 are missing from the list. I see they still break down phones by version instead of just its main brand as the vibrant, capivate, facinate all have their own categories.. but yet, there is only 1 iphone category while 2 are being sold and probably 3 are widely active.
