Apple had a strong three-year plan for the iPhone, which would have culminated next year with the 20th anniversary of the flagship phone lineup. Unfortunately, according to a new report, the company has had to cancel its ambitious iPhone 20 Pro.

iPhone 20 Pro gets canceled

The iPhone 20 Pro was going to be a spectacular phone with an all-glass design for its screen. There would have been no bezels — with the screen feeling like it is floating above the chassis — and the Face ID component and the selfie camera would have been moved under the display.

Said display was expected to meld very gently into the body of the phone. Enough that the bezels disappear but not so much that the contents on the screen appear distorted. It was supposed to elevate what Samsung had once done with its Edge phones.

Unfortunately, according to a new report, Apple has canceled this model now and next year will see a different kind of iPhone instead.

Yield issues ruined the 20th anniversary

Apparently, ongoing yield issues due to the already-stressed state of the tech industry forced Apple’s hand. What was supposed to be a triumphant restructuring of the entire smartphone world to celebrate 20 years of iPhone will now be an occasion that is a lot less special.

Understandably, Apple fans aren’t too pleased with the news either, though they don’t really blame the company for the state of the industry right now.

A less spectacular 20th

Next year marks 20 years of one of the most important devices ever made. Unfortunately, with the all-glass iPhone 20 Pro canceled, we can expect something less than stellar.

Recent renders from certain industry insiders have shown an iPhone 20 Pro that does feature the bezel-free design but also includes a Dynamic Island cutout. It’s highly possible that this is what the iPhone 20 Pro will now look like.

Another delay in my decision to get an iPhone?

I have been waiting for the iPhone 20 Pro to come out before deciding whether I would like to make the switch to Apple. The idea of a cutout-free display is simply too enticing for me to resist.

With this news, however, not only is this potential jump now postponed further, but there is also a good chance that an Android manufacturer will beat Apple to the punch. Again.
