Video: Sailfish OS successfully ported to a Nexus 4

The team that was spun off Nokia's MeeGo division, now known simply as Jolla, has been working around the clock in its attempt to offer a new take on what a mobile operating system should be like. After years of development, the resulting Sailfish OS is now a reality, and its already got its first and only vessel -- the Jolla phone. Or well, at least that's how it used to be. As it turns out, some unknown tech wizard has managed to port the open-sourced OS to the dev-friendly Nexus 4, and he has, thankfully, decided to let the rest of the world know by posting proof on YouTube...

Jolla sees millions of Sailfish OS powered phones getting sold

Finnish based Jolla has started shipping its Jolla phone, powered by the open source Sailfish OS. The latter is based on Nokia's former MeeGo OS used on the Nokia N9. The Jolla phone is priced unlocked for €399 ($540 USD) and includes a 4.5 inch screen, a dual-core processor, 16GB in native storage, a microSD slot, an 8MP camera and exchangeable colored casings that you can change with your mood...

This year looks like the year of Linux-based mobile operating systems. Android, which already has the global lead, is poised to firmly take the US market share as well. Then, there are at least 2, maybe 3 (depending on if Ubuntu makes it to market in 2013) Linux-based mobile platforms set to launch, including Sailfish, which Jolla hopes will gain traction in China...
