T-Mobile's long-time subscribers stuck with legacy plans offering 3G and 4G service are being forced to migrate to a 5G plan that is going to cost them $6 more per month on average. Boy, this sounds like a great opportunity for a smart wireless company to take advantage of T-Mobile's actions to promote their service and generate some new business. I would expect some lower-cost MVNOs to be aggressively promoting their low-priced 5G plans.
Xfinity Mobile promotes its wireless plans to certain T-Mobile subscribers
An MVNO is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator that offers wireless service to consumers despite lacking a network and a wireless infrastructure, including cell towers and spectrum. So the MVNO buys wireless service from an MNO (Mobile Network Operator) such as AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon, marks up the price, and sells it to its customers at a profit. Still, with a lower overhead, MVNOs are able to offer service at a lower price than the MNOs.
Which of these MVNOs would you sign up with?
Well, it appears that Xfinity Mobile has taken the initiative to go after those T-Mobile customers being forced to transition to a 5G plan. On the Xfinity app, under membership benefits, Xfinity is promoting its Xfinity Mobile MVNO by showing a box with the question "T-Mobile raising your rate?" This is followed by, "Try Xfinity Mobile free for a year."

The rest of the promotion says that you can save $65 per month vs. the T-Mobile Essentials plan. Additionally, your first line on Xfinity Mobile would be absolutely free for one year. Plus, there is no contract to sign, allowing you to cancel any time. Xfinity Mobile uses Verizon's wireless service.
Get a year of Xfinity Mobile's Mobile Select plan for free
The free Xfinity line for a year is on Xfinity Mobile's Mobile Select plan, which is normally $30 a month per line. The service includes:
- Unlimited talk, text, and data. After 50GB of cellular usage, speeds could be slower during periods of network congestion.
- Unlimited talk, text, and data for travel in more than 215 destinations.
- Unlimited mobile hotspot with speeds reduced after 15GB.
- Wi-Fi Power Boost raises data speeds when you're on Wi-Fi at home or on the go.
- 720p video allows you to stream videos in high definition.
The Mobile Plus plan offers more, and you can get one year for a promotional price of $15
Xfinity also has another plan, Mobile Plus, which is normally $45 per month per line. For the first year, you would pay only $15 for your first line. This plan includes:
- Unlimited talk, text, and data. After 50GB of cellular usage, speeds could be slower during periods of network congestion.
- Unlimited talk, text, and data for travel in more than 215 destinations.
- Unlimited mobile hotspot with speeds reduced after 50GB.
- 4K video allows you to stream videos in ultra-high definition.
- Xfinity Mobile Care Plus offers device repairs with replacements.
- Phone upgrades every year with a device discount guaranteed.
- Xfinity Call Guard will protect you from spam calls.
- Wi-Fi Power Boost raises data speeds when you're on Wi-Fi at home or on the go.
Let me be clear here. Xfinity normally offers the discounted pricing on both plans as a normal promotion. But with T-Mobile hiking prices for long-time subscribers moving to a 5G plan, Xfinity mentions this specifically as a reason to try Xfinity Mobile.
