Three unannounced iOS 27 features may still come to your iPhone this fall

Apple may give more than it announced at WWDC 2026 with the final release of iOS 27.

Apple may have developed more new iOS 27 features than it was willing to present during the WWDC 2026 keynote. The company reportedly has at least three major new features that are probably going to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Apple Watch Series 12 this fall.

Three key iOS 27 features are still in development

Apple is still working on at least three of the previously rumored iOS 27 and watchOS 27 features. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that internal versions of the company’s operating systems have access to the more customizable Camera app, third-party chatbot integration with Siri, and a new modular watch face on the Apple Watch.

All three new additions were rumored to be part of the iOS 27 announcement, but Apple didn’t mention them during last week’s keynote. It is unclear whether the features were not ready for the public or Apple wanted to announce them during its hardware event in September, but they’re still in development.

Making the upcoming devices look even better

Apple was rumored to launch a simplified version of the Apple Watch Ultra’s Modular watch face for the smaller device. The company may still launch it, but it will likely be connected to the new Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 3, which are expected in the fall. The watch face may still be available for older Apple Watch models after the watchOS 27 update.

Something similar may happen with the more advanced camera app, which you may have hoped to get with the iOS 27 beta. There’s a chance that Apple uses this particular upgrade to make the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max camera upgrade sound even better than they may be.

Similarly, the AI Extensions that were supposed to allow third-party AI to power Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features could’ve been kept out of the keynote so they don't overshadow the Siri upgrade. Gurman also suggests that announcing external AI options would confuse Apple’s messaging when it’s already complicated to explain the Gemini partnership to customers.

Judging by the discussions online, Apple is already failing with that explanation. While the Reddit users who already have access to Siri AI are mostly impressed with it, most of them seem to believe that it’s all Gemini behind the scenes. The truth is much more complicated, as Apple has its own Foundation Models, which may be based on Google’s models but offer completely different user experiences.

iOS 27 could be an amazing update

It appears that iOS 27 already has a bunch of great features. My colleague Peter shared his first impressions of the software, saying that the Liquid Glass intensity slider and the independent alarm volume levels were his favorite improvements.

His takeaway was that the new software was a breath of fresh air after the messy iOS 26. Adding the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone Ultra on top of the strong software could only make Apple’s September event more exciting.

Only one thing is missing

I’ve already shared the three rumored iOS 27 features that I hope make their way to the final release. Two of them are apparently coming in September, but I’d be very eager to also get more Apple Health improvements alongside the new Apple Watch models.
