The Vivo X400 series might not happen, but here's why that shouldn't bother you in the slightest

The company will go from the X300 to the X500 lineup just like that.

iPhones and Galaxies rule between NYC and LA, but if you're interested in all things mobile, I'm sure you're paying attention to whatever Vivo does.

The company recently unveiled its maxed-out Vivo X300 Ultra camera flagship and if you've got money to burn – and you love photography – I definitely recommend giving it a try.

The Vivo X300 series is solid and diverse (there's a slightly cheaper Vivo X300 FE model, too), but there won't be a Vivo X400 series.

But why?

Of course, nothing is official at the moment, but credible leaksters have already started talking about the eventual Vivo X500 (and not the X400) series.

This is only natural, since Chinese companies often avoid the number four in monikers. In Mandarin, Cantonese, and several other Chinese languages, the pronunciation of "four" sounds similar to the word for death.

This superstition, known as tetraphobia, influences consumer behavior much like avoiding the number 13 in some Western countries.

There wasn't a OnePlus 14 model as well. From the OnePlus 13, we went directly to the OnePlus 15.

Three new models

So, the Vivo X500 series might start with three models, which are expected in the fall of 2026.

At least one of the three new phones could be a compact flagship. Mini phones (these aren't truly mini at 6.3 inches but are smaller than their 6.9-inch siblings) are getting quite the attention lately.

Camera goodies

The main camera won't be a 200 MP one, but a 50 MP one… with LOFIC capabilities. As a reminder, LOFIC is the camera sensor technology that improves dynamic range by helping the sensor capture very bright and very dark areas more effectively at the same time.

This means your photos could come with better highlights, clearer shadows and more balanced exposure.

Moreover, there could be a newly developed periscope zoom camera.

Will the phone be snappy?

One of the three could pack a "next-generation 2nm flagship chipset" which could be made by MediaTek.

This piece of silicon has already leaked. It looks like a flagship chip aimed directly at Qualcomm's next Snapdragon processors.

It is rumored to use TSMC's advanced 2nm process, which could deliver stronger performance while improving power efficiency. The chip may feature an unusual 2+3+3 CPU layout focused more on raw speed than battery-saving efficiency cores.

A new GPU is also expected, promising better gaming, graphics, and advanced visual effects. Several premium Android phones (Vivo and Oppo) could launch with it under the hood soon.

The Pro Max model

Some rumors say there'll be a Vivo X500 Pro Max model with a 6.9-inch display.

Come on, Vivo, you can come up with a better moniker than that!
