T-Mobile is down for many users across the nation right now

Today isn't a great day to be a T-Mobile subscriber, as both Magenta's Home Internet and mobile networks are down for at least hundreds of people in the US.

There's nothing quite like waking up on a fine summer morning, brushing your teeth, sipping your coffee, and getting ready to leave for work before discovering your internet is down.

Unfortunately, if you're a T-Mobile subscriber, you might be going through exactly this type of trouble... again, at least based on the hundreds of worrying Downdetector reports posted as of around 7 am Eastern Time on Thursday.

What seems to be the problem?

Pretty much everything, which is equally concerning and scary. While Magenta's 5G Home Internet network does seem responsible (again) for a fairly large number of the newly surfaced issues, plenty of T-Mo users are also having trouble with their mobile phones, and a not-insignificant number of customers are apparently getting no (mobile or broadband) signal whatsoever.

For some people, the outage may have started Wednesday evening, but because the reports were initially few and far between, T-Mobile probably didn't do anything to fix the mystery issues overnight.

How widespread are the issues?

It's actually a little early to answer that question, both figuratively and literally speaking, as most T-Mobile customers on the West Coast are likely sleeping at the time of this writing.

But it's clearly not too early for a few dozen complaints to have already made their way onto social media, most of which are a little too... explicit to embed or quote on a family-friendly website like PhoneArena.

Geographically speaking, the outage doesn't appear to be contained to any specific US area, which is never a good sign, as Downdetector reports so far have come from these places and many more like them:

Are other carriers also down?

Coincidentally or not, Downdetector user reports suggest Mint Mobile, Boost Mobile, and even Google Fi subscribers are experiencing similar issues this morning in a lot of places from New York to Los Angeles and from Boston to San Francisco. All three of these are mobile-only carriers, mind you, so whatever is happening, it's clearly not a T-Mobile Home Internet-exclusive problem.

It's also important to point out that Mint Mobile just so happens to be owned by T-Mobile, which may or may not explain the origin of the outage. Google Fi operates as an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) for T-Mo as well, but on the other hand, Boost Mobile users primarily utilize AT&T's network, so perhaps this is not all the "Un-carrier's" doing.
