Last week Fairphone announced the latest Fairphone 6+ model, and surprise surprise. The phone is available in the US on T-Mobile for the first time in the brand's history. And, according to our poll, people are ready to spend $649 on a Fairphone 6+.

Our poll shows a surprising interest among US users toward this unusual phone. Almost two thirds of all the voters say they might buy a Fairphone 6+ at $649. And while I was cautious with the wording in the original poll, this is a strong indication of interest still.
Another solid 28% voted "maybe," which, to be honest, is too close to the first poll answer. Nevertheless, under 10% of our readers need flagship specs. That's really surprising. "Fairphone" stands for something completely different, and the company has never chased specs.

The Fairphone company focuses on repairability, transparency, and longevity. There's a strong ethical side too. The first model of the company has been dubbed "the most ethical smartphone in the world," scoring 98 out of 100 possible points by the British magazine Ethical Consumer.
It's about getting the materials from ethical sources, offering a phone you can easily repair yourself (the company received a repair score of 10/10 from iFixit on pretty much every phone), and finally, sticking with the phone for longer.

When it comes to privacy, Fairphone offers some neat features. You can opt for a de-Googled Fairphone, removing every trace of Google's ecosystem and using alternative services.
You can also switch the camera system and microphones of the phone off completely.
Again, the specs aren't flagship-grade, but they'll let you use the phone comfortably for many years.
The Fairphone 6+ comes equipped with a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED panel running at 120Hz, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset paired with 12GB of RAM, a 50MP main sensor paired with a 13MP ultrawide, 256GB onboard memory, and Android 16 out of the box.

This interest in the US audience toward a privacy-oriented, ethical midrange phone marks an important shift in consumers' mindset.
The ongoing chip crisis is making flagships more and more expensive, and people may start looking at cheaper models that offer better bang for the buck.
I don't expect Fairphone to suddenly start selling like crazy in the US, but the foundations have been set. Let's see how the next quite expensive flagship phones from Apple and Samsung will sell. I don't think we're going to get record sales on flagships again anytime soon. But let's wait and see.
