In a few days, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 8, the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will be announced. A new leak has now pretty much confirmed what color options the Fold 8 Ultra will launch with, including the online-exclusive shade that Samsung loves to add each generation.

In addition, the online-exclusive color for this year will be green.

A sigh of relief for Samsung users

Some reports had previously claimed that there wouldn’t be a black option this year for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. As the most popular choice of color in the entire smartphone market, I thought that this was a very odd decision for Samsung to have taken, perhaps because Apple had done the same last year with the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Thankfully, not only is black present and correct, but perhaps the green option can be a little more colorful than the faded Mint option for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Purple, however, will apparently be a dull shade like the one on the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the Galaxy S24, according to the report.

A good selection for the Fold 7 successor

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be a wide-folding phone like the upcoming foldable iPhone, also called the iPhone Ultra. There is also no confirmation whether the Fold 8 will come with a black option. It’s the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra that is the real successor to the Fold 7, and it also has more cameras and a bigger battery than its wide-folding counterpart.

So, if you’re looking to get the Fold 8 Ultra instead of the Fold 8, which is the smart thing to do in my opinion, then you have a pretty decent selection of colors to choose from.

Black for me, please and thank you

I’ve always gotten black smartphones. To get me to switch, you’d need to make a very elegant new color that doesn’t scream for attention but still stands out when you pay closer attention.

Dark Cherry on the iPhone 18 Pro might be that kind of color, and so was the Nebular Red option for the Huawei Mate X7 (both red, maybe there’s something to that). But I know how appealing a pure black smartphone can be, and I’m relieved to see that Samsung hasn’t abandoned the color for no good reason.
