Samsung could be on the brink of a major Exynos and ISOCELL breakthrough

We needed chips for AI projects, but now AI is "making" chips.

Samsung fans have probably never been kept up at night by a question like, "How difficult is it for Samsung to make an Exynos chip or an ISOCELL sensor?"

In this current economy of ours, however, we have to meditate on such questions. It's not that we should be preoccupied with the financial well-being of the Samsung Electronics corporation per se, but if the company optimizes its process even further, we could benefit, too.

Utilizing AI tools




Thanks to well-known tipster Ice Universe on X, we're diving deep into Samsung's headquarters and fabs.

Not to spoil anything, but the Korean giant is experimenting with AI big time… and it pays off. "What took more than a month can suddenly be completed in just two days", Ice Universe says.

Recently, Samsung's System LSI (the chip-design division of the company) started using Anthropic's Claude Code AI tool in its semiconductor development. The AI is now being used for actual chip design and testing, with Samsung reportedly seeing productivity gains of 15x to 30x in some specific tasks.

Hold your horses


This, however, doesn't mean that Samsung will be able to manufacture the Exynos chipset 15 to 30 times faster in general. But specific engineering tasks within the much larger chip-development process can now be executed in almost no time, compared to what the company was doing before AI.

A new chip with some of its parts still under development was tested. Normally, engineers would have to wait until those missing pieces were finished before they could properly test everything together. Instead, an AI model helped Samsung create software versions of the unfinished hardware, basically acting as temporary stand-ins.

Engineers could then test how the different parts of the chip worked together without waiting for the real components.

What was expected to take more than a month was actually finished in about two days.

Another example involved a Samsung engineer who needed to create virtual USB keyboard and mouse models for testing. Rather than spending weeks learning the technical details, studying existing code and building everything manually, the engineer used AI. The work was reportedly completed in a single day and was later used for Android USB driver development as well.

How am I benefiting from all this?


I'm tempted to say that Samsung would lower prices of Exynos-equipped (and ISOCELL-equipped) Galaxy phones and tablets once it polishes the process. That's a pipe dream, but the best we could hope for is for Samsung to freeze prices, if possible. It's still something.
