Samsung CEO insists that you need to share more with your AI agent

How much will you share?

The July 22 Galaxy Unpacked event where Samsung will unveil its latest Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Flip 8 and Galaxy Watch 9 devices is what we're looking for.

But newer foldables, improved hinges and shallower creases are just one part of the equation – software and AI play a bigger and more important role in the Samsung ecosystem.

None other than Samsung CEO and president TM Roh says so.

The agentic age

In his latest essay, TM Roh says that AI is getting smarter faster and that this trend will surely continue. But in order to truly alter our lives, AI needs to not merely answer questions but to take action on the user's behalf. This is called agentic AI.

For the agentic age to truly kick in, AI models first need to know the person behind the keyboard.

TM Roh says every device matters because each one knows something different about you. Your phone is with you all day, your tablet is for work and learning, your smartwatch tracks health and your TV and smart home devices understand your daily routines. Foldables and smart glasses add even more context. Together, these devices give AI a better understanding of what you need.

AI wants to get to know you better

The best AI works on the devices that know you best. This sounds logical but statements like these will surely make privacy advocates go up in flames. Who actually controls the AI models once we invite them into our lives?

The smarter AI also needs to be personal, secure and easy to trust. People should know what AI is doing and stay in control of their data, TM Roh says.

He highlights that Samsung Knox protects both individual devices and the data shared between them, while sensitive information stays on the device whenever possible.

Thinner foldables incoming?

TM Roh argues that as AI takes on more tasks, the shape and the size of a device matter greatly, which is why Samsung continues to invest in thinner foldable phones with larger screens that can still fit in your pocket.

He also points to wearables like smartwatches, saying they can help people better understand their health by tracking things such as sleep and recovery.

According to Roh, Samsung will use the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event to introduce new AI features across its devices while continuing to focus on user privacy, partnerships and making AI more useful in everyday life.
