I’m not surprised T-Mobile’s new move has its customers enraged

Is it any surprise that T-Mobile customers don't like it when they're forced to use T-Life for yet another task?

T-Mobile has deployed another tactic to force its customer base to use the T-Life app even when visiting its physical stores. The un-carrier continues to go down the “all digital” path, so is it any surprise then that customers — who have been hesitant to adopt the T-Life app — are now even angrier at T-Mobile?

Most customers are not happy in the slightest

New signs at T-Mobile stores have appeared overnight, asking visitors to check in with their T-Life app. If the app already has access to location services, then the check-in happens automatically, alerting the store to your arrival.

In a poll, we asked you how you felt about this new move from T-Mobile. Unsurprisingly, over 72 percent of you said that this was just another way for T-Mobile to force you to use the T-Life app.

Some of you are annoyed

A little less than 18 percent of respondents said that this would make going to stores a hassle. As pointed out numerous times by T-Mobile users in the past, the point of going to a store is to get help from the staff present there, not to do everything yourself with the app.

In fact, one T-Mobile representative shared how a customer did everything by themselves using the T-Life app and then remarked how they hadn’t had to ask for help in the slightest.

Lastly, a little over 10 percent of voters said that this move would speed up store visits. There might be some truth to this, as automated check-ins could potentially streamline the process.

For example, one customer was happy that they got served first because they checked in with the app before the people in line in front of them. What do you think about T-Mobile’s new check-in policy?

Reception to T-Life is changing

What I find fascinating about all of this is that reception to the T-Life app is evolving over time. Once universally hated and pushed back against, the app has some customers defending it now. It’s not a huge subset of the user base, mind you, but it definitely seems like an emerging minority.

Others, meanwhile, point out that the switch to T-Life isn’t as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be. I think that T-Mobile’s grand plan might just have worked after all. So now the question is, will AT&T and Verizon follow suit?
