The brand-new Nothing Headphone (1) Pro look a lot like the non-Pro Nothing Headphone (1) at first glance, but the design refinements and performance upgrades are actually pretty substantial.

If Nothing's first-ever over-ear headphones caught your eye with their funky design but felt like they were missing something last year, you will probably be delighted to find out that the Carl Pei-founded company is taking that relatively affordable and remarkably powerful product to the next level today.

Obviously, that means the just-unveiled Nothing Headphone (1) Pro are both more advanced and more expensive than the original Nothing Headphone (1), although they're still nowhere near as costly as Apple's AirPods Max 2, for instance. But first things first...

A major leap in both design and sound quality

Because the Nothing Headphone (1) look so distinctive and... nice, you shouldn't be surprised to see their Pro-branded cousin keep a number of important visual elements largely unchanged. I'm talking about the rectangular-shaped ear cups and the transparent elliptical caps on top of them, although the build quality is vastly improved with the use of super-premium titanium and aluminum materials and a bunch of other subtle changes are meant to increase your comfort while keeping the overall product weight impressively low.

In a nutshell, the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro are a refined and more durable version of the non-Pro model, but if that doesn't sound exciting enough to you, the internal upgrades are virtually guaranteed to knock your socks off.

Everything from the active noise cancellation to the overall audio performance is supposed to be miles better than what was already described as pretty solid in our in-depth review of the "standard" Nothing Headphone (1), so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing (or rather hearing) how the Pro variant performs in PhoneArena's comprehensive testing soon enough.

Unfortunately (and somewhat predictably enough), the triple driver architecture that promises to deliver "richer detail and greater balance across the full sound spectrum", as well as the ultra-sophisticated 10-mic system designed to maximize noise cancellation in "everyday listening" and the upgraded spatial audio technology will likely have a negative effect on battery life, downgrading it from a mind-blowing max rating of 80 hours on the non-Pro Nothing Headphone (1) to a... still-impressive 68 hours of endurance between charges.

Pricing, availability, and rivals

Yes, the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro are already up for grabs around the world. And yes, at $399 in the US, £349 in the UK, and €349 in the rest of Europe, these state-of-the-art new over-ear cans are costlier than the $299/£249/€249 Nothing Headphone (1).

But if we look at the $549 AirPods Max 2 with only 20 hours of battery life and an admittedly boring design, I think we can all agree that Nothing could have easily gone 50 or even 100 bucks higher than the $399 recommended price stateside.

Of course, there are also other great candidates for the title of best high-end Bluetooth wireless headphones right now that you might want to consider buying this holiday season, from the $449 Sony WH-1000XM6 to the $449 Bose QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen), and compared to those, the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro look perfectly priced... as long as you're a fan of their unusual design and as long as all the sound quality, noise cancellation, battery life, and all-day comfort promises pan out in real-life use.
