Anticipating the first foldable iPhone Ultra, several smartphone brands rushed to launch their own wide foldables. However, neither Apple’s phone, nor the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or the Huawei Pura X Max will offer anything like what Honor is rumored to launch soon.
Honor may launch the most impressive wide foldable yet
Honor is reportedly preparing (source in Chinese) to launch its first wide foldable with some truly exciting specs. According to reputable Weiblo leaker Digital Chat Station, the device is currently in what they call “accelerated development.”
The new device may feature a 2nm chipset, which is very likely one of the two Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processors. Most excitingly, the phone may feature a battery with a capacity of about 7,000 mAh, which would put it in the same category as the Vivo X Fold 6.
Honor’s wide foldable will feature a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch external screen. There may be a 200MP primary camera and a periscope telephoto, which could end up in a horizontal bump on the back.
What would make you consider buying a foldable phone?

There’s still no information about the detailed specs, including the RAM and storage capacities of the new phone. Considering it could be in the final development stages, it wouldn’t be surprising if we start hearing about it sooner rather than later.

Its price is also still a mystery, but Digital Chat Station mentioned it could launch at 9,999 yuan (about $1,472 when directly converted). This would make it more expensive than the Honor Magic V6, which launched at 8,999 yuan, but cheaper than the Huawei Pura X Max, which starts at 10,999 yuan (directly converted to about $1,325 and $1,619, respectively).
In his in-depth review of the Honor Magic V6, my colleague Rad called it “one of the finest foldable phones ever created,” and for a reason. The phone combines a classy design, with top-notch hardware, and an impressive camera system, making it a high-end foldable with character.
Samsung and Apple should take notice

Neither the iPhone Ultra, nor the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to match the key specs of the rumored Honor wide foldable.
While the battery of Apple’s foldable will be the largest of any iPhone, it is not expected to go over 5,500 mAh. Its camera system is also sticking to two 48MP sensors, leaving the A20 Pro chipset the only key spec to match Honor’s rumored effort.
On Samsung’s side, things may look even less impressive. The wide Galaxy Z Fold 8 isn’t expected to get a battery larger than 5,000 mAh, and it’ll feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. While the tall Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to get the same 200MP camera as the Galaxy S26 Ultra, the wide model is more likely to get the 50MP shooter of the vanilla Galaxy S26.
Launch it globally
My only hope for Honor’s wide foldable is to get to as many markets as possible. Competition is the best way to make smartphones better, and I’d love to see Apple and Samsung responding to external pressure at least on some markets outside of China.
