Clicks Communicator unleashes a wave of new upgrades before it ships in December

Clicks Communicator reservation holders are getting more phone for the same money, as Clicks has confirmed 12GB of RAM and a bigger battery for its keyboard phone at no extra cost. That's a nice change of pace in a year when the Galaxy S26 Ultra and iPhone 18 Pro Max both got pricier, and it's good news for fans of small phones.

The Clicks Communicator jumps to 12GB of RAM before it ships

Clicks announced in a press release today (September 18) that the Communicator will ship with 12GB of RAM, up from the 8GB it promised back in January. The battery is also growing from 4,000mAh to 4,350mAh, and it's now rated for more than 800 charge cycles, with both upgrades coming at no added cost to reservation holders.

The phone still launches on Android 17, which we already knew since the company made that switch back in May, and it's set to get updates through Android 20 plus five years of security patches.

Of course, there's a deadline attached, since order configuration opens today and the $499 launch price only holds through September 30. After that, the Communicator moves to its $649 MSRP on October 1, with shipments starting in December.



That lines up with what the company told us in July, when it said 45% of its pre-order customers already carry an iPhone.

Clicks is adding RAM while Samsung, Google and Apple charge more for it

Memory prices have climbed sharply as AI data centers soak up supply, and both the Galaxy S26 series and the Pixel 11 series came in about $100 higher than their predecessors.

Google also cut the base Pixel 11 Pro down from 16GB of RAM to 12GB, and iPhone 18 Pro Max buyers just absorbed a $100 increase of their own, with another one reportedly lined up for next year. So a $499 keyboard phone matching the base Pixel 11 Pro's 12GB, without charging early buyers a cent more, is something we haven't seen much of in 2026.

There's also a change the press release doesn't mention, and I think it deserves a proper explanation. Clicks confirmed on its blog that the Communicator now uses a lithium-ion battery instead of the silicon-carbon one it announced in January.

Silicon-carbon is the newer, denser chemistry that lets a phone fit more capacity into the same space, which is why Clicks picked it in the first place. However, every phone battery has to pass independent safety tests where cells are heated, dropped, punctured and even sliced in half, and those tests don't care which chemistry you're using.

According to Clicks, silicon-carbon cells failed those tests at a noticeably higher rate than lithium-ion, even though the overall failure rate was still low.

Every new accessory and service for the Clicks Communicator

Here's everything that's now available to add when you configure your order:

• Clicks Care ($129 for two years): a replacement phone for drops, spills and cracked screens with a $49 deductible, available only in the US and Canada.

Clicks Mobile turns the Communicator into a proper second line

Clicks Mobile is the company's own eSIM service, with voice and data plans meant to set the Communicator up as a second line built around messaging. It launches in the US and UK first, and eligible buyers get their first two months free when they activate a plan once the phone arrives.

That matters more than it sounds, since Clicks' FAQ notes that WhatsApp and Telegram calls carry over from your main phone, but regular cellular calls need a second number. Clicks also confirmed in a separate blog post that the service is powered by Gigs, with US plans running on AT&T's network and UK plans on Vodafone's.

However, pricing and data allowances are still a mystery, as Clicks only says several plans will be available, with the specifics coming closer to December. If you'd rather keep your current carrier wherever you are, that's fine too, since the Communicator ships unlocked with a nano SIM slot and eSIM support.

What Clicks Communicator buyers should do before September 30

If you already put down a reservation, you should have an email from Clicks inviting you to configure your order, where you pick your color (Smoke, Clover or Onyx), keyboard layout, Charging Covers and any accessories.
