Soon you might be able to chat with Google about new Google Messages features

A new feature is being tested that will allow Google Messages users to chat directly to Google about the messaging app.

Do you enjoy talking to others about the Google Messages app? I mean, it's probably not the main topic of conversation around the dinner table, and you're not going to approach some random guy in a sketchy part of the city to whisper in his ear, "That Tap to Draft feature is a cool addition to Google Messages."

Google is testing an official chat group focused on new features for Google Messages

No matter how excited you might get over a new Google Messages feature, most people don't care. However, since you're not like most people, you'll be ecstatic to know that Google is testing an official chat group for those who want to communicate with Google about Google Messages' latest features. To get a preview of this, you need to be a Google Messages beta tester.

How to join the new Google Messages chat

You will see a card at the top of the messages list in the app that asks if you'd like to join the official chat for all future features and media updates. You can choose "No thanks" or "Accept." If you select the latter, you will have access to a new RCS chat and can start chatting with an AI-powered chatbot about new features for Google Messages. Once the feature is officially launched, you'll be able to have interesting discussions with Google about the app.

If you really enjoy using the Google Messages app, joining the chat will allow you to ask Google questions about new features and how they can really improve your chatting experience. Google could expand the capability of the chat to include new features being added to other Google apps and even allow you to ask questions about other Google services. Who knows, perhaps Google will turn the chat into some type of feature used to access customer service.

However, at this stage, it seems likely that Google will restrict this chat to conversations about new Google Messages features. And you don't have to stay wedded to the chat either. Anytime you feel as through you've had enough, you can unsubscribe from it.

Google engineers are always working to improve the firm's core apps

Google is always hard at work seeking to make its core Android apps easier to use while loading them up with features that deliver useful information to users. Think about how Google Maps can take you from point A to point B quickly and safely. Of course, it can also help you find a place to stay when you arrive at point B, recommend a place to dine, and suggest places to go for entertainment.

With Google Messages, new features are typically changes to the UI that streamline the use of the app. Google Messages is the most widely used Android messaging app in the US and worldwide it has 1.2 billion monthly active users and 750 million active daily users.

Become a Google Messages beta tester

To become a Google Messages beta tester, open the Play Store app and search apps for Google Messages. When you see the listing for Google Messages, scroll down past the developer contact information to the section where it says "Join the beta." Tap on "Join" and confirm your choice in the pop-up box.

As a Google Messages beta tester, you will be given access to new features before everyone else gets them. If the beta program is full for the moment, the "Join" button is grayed out, and you will have to try back at another time.

If you don't have Google Messages installed on your Android phone or tablet, you can tap on this link to install it from the Google Play Store. There is no clue as to when Google might add this feature to the app.

Those of you who have been Android users since the DROID days might recall how carrier-developed text apps were among the most widely used. The app was released in 2014 as a replacement for the Google Hangouts default SMS app on Nexus devices.
