The Galaxy S27 Ultra will most likely be equipped with the 2 nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, but another camera phone is going to beat the Galaxy to the 2 nm mark. Vivo teased the X500 series, and the lineup will be powered by a 2 nm MediaTek Dimensity chipset.

Vivo X500 confirmed to beat the Galaxy S27 Ultra to the 2 nm mark



The Chinese company continues to tease its upcoming X500 series, and we've already gotten some key camera specs. Now, Vivo has detailed another aspect of the upcoming series: the chipset that will power these flagship camera phones.

The company posted a teaser image on Weibo with the name of the series and a line stating that "Dimensity is a key player in 2 nm chip development."

This points to a 2 nm chipset for the Vivo X500 Pro and Vivo X500 Pro Max models.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro could be the suspected silicon



The aforementioned 2 nm Dimensity chipset could be the unannounced Dimensity 9600 Pro. Leaks and rumors suggest that this chip is built on TSMC’s second-generation 2 nm N2P process and features an all-new GPU architecture and an “ultra-high-performance NPU.”

The Vivo X500 Pro models will also feature a new imaging chip with 4K 120 fps 10-bit Log recording support, 60 fps video autofocus tracking, 4K Dolby Portrait video, one-tap AI video highlight generation, and hardware-level video super-resolution.

Dimensity 9600 Pro vs Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6



It looks like the Vivo X500 series will be one of the first to feature 2 nm silicon. Comparing the Dimensity 9600 Pro and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 results in more similarities than differences, with the obvious disclaimer that neither of these two chips is official.

Both chips are adopting an identical 2+3+3 core architecture that completely drops traditional low-power efficiency cores, relying instead on the advanced 2 nm node to handle baseline power management.

Again, both are built on TSMC’s second-generation 2 nm N2P process. The Snapdragon is expected to be clocked a tad higher at 5.01 GHz, while the Dimensity 9600 Pro runs at 4.55 GHz.

But the biggest difference is the price.

You've probably already heard about the expected price hike for the upcoming Galaxy S27 series. In the case of the Galaxy S27 Ultra, we're looking at a starting price of $1,499. This might be due to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 being one of the most expensive new smartphone chips on the market.
