Sony officially announces the Sony Xperia Z4; 5.2-inch FHD screen and a metal frame
Sony Mobile has just put out a press release that finally makes its latest flagship model official. The Sony Xperia Z4 will feature a 5.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. It will be powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810. 3GB of RAM is inside along with 32GB of native storage. Those requiring more memory can take advantage of the 128GB capacity microSD slot on board. A 20.7MP camera is on back with a wide angle 5.1MP snapper on front for selfies and video chats. A 2930mAh battery will keep the lights on, and Android 5.0 is pre-installed.

The Sony Xperia Z4 will be available in White, Black, Copper and Aqua Green. The handset is IP6 certified for dust and IP5 and IP8 certified for water. This means that the Xperia Z4 is protected against "Water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) against enclosure from any direction." It also means that the phone can be submerged to 4.92 feet for as long as 30 minutes and emerge unscathed.

Sony says that its new flagship is 6.9mm thin, weighs 144 grams, and features a metal frame. It is .4mm thinner than its predecessor and weighs 8 grams less. The metal frame is put through a treatment to increase the shine. Also new with the Xperia Z4 is a "cooking mode" added to the rear camera, which helps users take better looking shots of food.

Some accessories for the phone were revealed, including a waterproof Cover Window that lets you view important information on the screen while still protecting the handset. This will be available in the same four colors as the Xperia Z4, priced at the equivalent of $59 USD. A desktop holder will also be offered, which will dock the phone and recharge it.

The Sony Xperia Z4 will be available in Japan later this summer. There is no word yet on pricing.

2930mAh battery? 3gb RAM? VS Snapdragon 810? Z3 FTW! good luck!

Well, the Z3 actually proved that it's not all about the battery capacity, so better don't judge the battery life early.

they sacrificed the 270mAh from the Z3 just to achieved a thinner body ? lol wrong move Sony plus the bad snapdragon 810's battery efficiency? come on!

Reducing the battery capacity for thinness is ALWAYS a bad move. Though this time I think it wont be THAT bad compared to the Z3

well, infact 9mm thickness is morethan enough for a smartphone. i rather buy a phone with at around 8-9mm thickness with atleast bigger battery capacity/and good performance. so for me this is a bad idea z3 had a great battery and larger battery capacity @3200mAh. this surly can affect the decision of some Z3 users not to go with z4.

It is a bad idea for all of us lol. Imagine Z3 and Z4 with Z2's battery and thickness, now that would be nice.

battery is no issue for sony even if they reduced it for a small amount because sony resolution is only 1080p. that is why samsung and LG flops on battery life. QHD? 2k/4k resolution in a 5 inch screen? there is no difference, even 720p is still appealing. don't put yourself intoo quad HD, 2k/4k resolution hype. or it will be #RIPBattery. plus sony is using close to stock android unlike sammy's touchwiz bloatware and LG's UI.

I recall htc fanboys saying the same thing before the battery benchmarks came out. A 1080p display isn't going to help much if your processor is a dud in power consumption. Also, the S6 is no "flop" on battery life. It's about the same as the S5.

wow incorrect my friend I have both the M9 and S6 and can tell you for sure that the M9 has been better in battery almost all the time and with equal usage. the battery on the S6 is worst than that of the S5. I still can get through the day with both so no problem there.

Keep lying, kiddo. Phonearena, GSMArena, Anandtech, and tweakers all disagree with you.

I don't need to lie I am a heavy user and have noticed the S6 draining battery faster than the M9 doing similar tasks, granted not by much but it dies faster indeed. My opinion is based on personal experience, and don't follow what a website tells me but on what my usage of the phone is.

Yep because real life usage is the same as a script from a phone review website, btw calling people "kiddo" makes you look like one.

Many networks have not updated the software to fix battery outside of the USA, where did you get your phone from.

not favoring Sony or HTC but judging from past, sony is known for optimizing good battery life.... if i recall right, Z2 had 3200mAh, and Z3 had 3100mAh, which was smaller then previous and still manage to pump up more juice respective Z2...... (P.S. using LTE on Z2 While H+ on Z3, just thought you should know) but dont judge it yet... it might be good enough let you by the day .....

Unlike lg, Samsung use oled, the s6 screen uses less battery then the s5' try again, going by the htc m9 the z4 will have a crap battery due to the 810, as its junk

I Disagree. S6 has 250Mah less battery than S5, still it outlasts S5, & even my iPhone 6 plus also in screen on time. Its all about optimizations and S-Amoled is one of the best optimised display on the planet right now. Amoled FTW :)

The Z3 had 3100 mha battery and not 3200 mha. So the difference is only 170mha. Plus the new 810 is based on 20nm and will most likely be using more efficient ram as well. So wait for the true battery tests.

In that case get the compact... Sony tends to leave a thicker body on the Compact and the battery is also better... They will probably do the same here... Though I have absolutely no reasons to upgrade from the Z3 Compact.

You should worry more about G4. After Samsung's phenomenal success with their S6 and S6 edge its very likely G4 will not be able to sell well with their Super ugly lather back design. And talking about SD808, its worst than 805. G3 only able to sell well because S5 was an underwhelming device. So good luck to you as well.

You know even though the Galaxy S5 underwhelmed in sales it still sold like 3 times more than the G3; I mean the Galaxy S5 sold 11 million its first month, while the G3 has sold 10 million in about a year. Anyway, I disagree about the SD808 chip being inferior to the SD805. The 808 chip is a top tier 64 bit processor while the 805 was still running on 32 bit. The only thing the 805 has over the 808 is the slightly better GPU, but the difference seems minimal.

Its 170 mah less than the z3. And it probably won't be a problem as sony wants to keep the 2day battery.

It is 170 and not 270. Learn to do math. All you did was make yourself look stupid. Besides the Z3 had one of the best battery lives on the market. The 810 64 bit CPU is based on 20nm, plus the ram will be newer and most likely be more power efficient as well. So battery life should be close to the same. But only a true test will reveal the Z4's true battery life.

Stop spamming your crap. Battery life went down significantly for the Z4. 23h talk-time on the Z3 and 17h talk-time on the Z4.

LOL still better battery than iphone6 and s6.

...but that is not the issue here from Mr. AppleCultist. We EXPECT the follow up model to be an improvement upon the former flagship. Thus a 3500MAh battery in 2015 and, indeed, stop with those thin, thinner, thinnest paranoia! We don't mind a 9mm thick device as long as we have a BETTER battery life. I think we should just all stop buying a new device this year. Because imho none of them are good! They ALL compromised! So f**k them!
