Although Sony’s official word regarding the launch of its new Xperia Z1 Compact is that the handset will be out in February, customers in the UK have the chance to get it as soon as this month.

British retailer Phones4U is taking pre-orders for the Z1 Compact as we speak, saying it can deliver it on January 31. The retailer even throws in a free Sony wireless speaker (worth £119 - $194) and “up to £65 of movies and music.” The new smartphone is offered for free on various contracts from EE, Vodafone, Orange or T-Mobile - starting at £29.00 per month.

Those who want to buy the new Xperia SIM-free will have to pay around £449.99 ($737) in the UK. In other parts of the world, Sony will apparently sell the smartphone for around $550 unlocked come February.

The Xperia Z1 Compact is a mini done right. Yes, its display (4.3-inch 720p) can’t stand next to the 5-inch 1080p screen of the original Z1, but most of its internals are similar - including the quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and the 20.7MP rear camera. If you’re not convinced that this is a smartphone for you, you can check out or Xperia Z1 Compact hands-on for a closer look at it.
