Sony Xperia 5 now available to pre-order as a cheaper Xperia 1 alternative
Mere days after being officially announced, the high-end Sony Xperia 5 can now be pre-ordered in the US. At the moment, only B&H accepts pre-orders for the smartphone, mentioning that it should be able to ship it beginning November 5. The new Xperia is unlocked and it looks like it will work on Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile, but not on Sprint.

The Xperia 5 doesn't differ much from the Xperia 1, another high-end phone that Sony released back in May. Nevertheless, the Xperia 5 is smaller than the slightly older device, as it sports a 6.1-inch display with 1080 x 2520 pixels instead of the 6.5-inch, 1644 x 3840 pixels screen of the Xperia 1.

B&H is asking $799.99 for the unlocked Sony Xperia 5 - that's $150 less than the launch price of the unlocked Xperia 1. You can pre-order the new handset online here.

Similar to the Xperia 1, the Sony Xperia 5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, has 6 GB of RAM, and offers 128 GB of expandable storage space. Furthermore, the new device has the same triple rear camera that can be found on the Xperia 1 - this includes a 12 MP main camera, a 12 MP camera for 2x optical zoom, and a 12 MP wide-angle camera. The Xperia 5 can record 4K video at 30 fps and Full HD slow-motion video at up to 960 fps.

Other notable features of the Sony Xperia 5 include dust and water resistance, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound, fingerprint scanner, and a 3140 mAh battery. Unfortunately, at launch, the Xperia 5 will run Android 9 Pie, not the newer Android 10 (hopefully, this will arrive via an update sometime soon after the phone's release).
