Snapdragon 835 gets benchmarked: octa-core design, fast Adreno 540 graphics in store for Galaxy S8

Snapdragon 835 gets benchmarked: octa-core design, fast Adreno 540 graphics in store for Galaxy S8
Not long ago, Qualcomm announced that its powerful Snapdragon 835 chipset is already sampling with customers, and it will apparently be produced in Samsung's foundries at the 10nm process. The first phones with Snapdragon 835 processors are expected to be Samsung's Galaxy S8 (at least its US versions) and the Xiaomi Mi 6, according to Keving Wong, the CEO of research shop IHS for China.

While these can't be found in a benchmark database just yet, Qualcomm's development board with Snapdragon 835 just popped up on one, and the processor seems to be an octa-core endeavor, clocked at 2.2 GHz here.

What's more intriguing, however, is the graphics performance, as the new Adreno 540 GPU scores about 30% higher compared to the 530 in the newest Snapdragon 821 that is used by phones like the OnePlus 3T. That is a fine bump in performance, and the 10nm production process could add a commensurate decrease in power consumption, too, compared to the 14nm Snapdragon 821.

^^ Right! The specs and rumours of the SD835 gives me goosebumps already... I just hope it doesn't disappoint in real-world performance!

Most phones nowadays don't disappoint in real world performance. I recently put CM 14.1 on my Nexus 5 and it flies.

I'm more concerned about moving back to octa-core, and whether the 10nm process can help offset the power consumption. No one wants another Snapdragon 810.

Always playing catchup with Apple. They need to get so far ahead that Apple can't rival them. This could shake up Apples' phone business. Not a fan of iphones but they make the best chips and no one else has access to them.

Day to day use over time will tell the story if this chip is as amazing as it says it is on paper. Benchmarks only prove that the chip can compute 1's and 0's...

Day to day performance of sd820 is very good. So sd835 would be great.

((processor seems to be an octa-core endeavor - a first for a flagship Snapdragon chip)) you know 810 was octa-core don't you? And almost every android flagship in 2017 will use this chip.the title makes it sound exclusive to S8

We do NOT talk about SD810!

Are you serious Mreveryphone? This is WAY more powerful than my s7 edge and that runs buttery smooth on my nougat 7.0 beta

Until we the consumer and real beta testers can get our hands on it, install all of our apps, roms, social media accounts, and whatever else we install on our devices we will then know the real power of this new chip... Benchmarks only tell us that the chip is alive!!

"Qualcomm's development board with Snapdragon 835 just popped up on one, and the processor seems to be an octa-core endeavor - a first for a flagship Snapdragon chip - clocked at 2.2 GHz here." WTF are you talking about, Daniel P.? The Snapdragon 810 was the first octa-core endeavor for a flagship Snapdragon chip!!

Then don't read about it. It's a Samsung /Android article so no need for you to care. Just saying what you Apple fans say.

Even 22% to 42% faster.

Even if it is, Androids crap game optimization won't make it play games any faster than the a10.

Android doesn't have "crap game optimization". If anything, with Vulkan it has the best potential all around. It's the games themselves that need to be optimized for the hardware (and software api's such as Vulkan).

all that and still will get smoked on scoring models by an older iphone 7 when released. notice i didnt even mention comparing the s8 to iphone8. shamesung specs up products with lots of specs and ram and them the system is not is not fine tuned because of the rogue apps in the play store. the heavy lagy os of tw the bloat of the carrier. the samsung repeat apps of Google and then the os of nougat. so those specs mean nothing other than a catch phrase which most of the samsung fans want

Blah blah blah blah. Poor apple trolls sigh! . Apple under greedy cook is not innovative anymore . All they do is steal the ideas and then try to patent it just to later troll the innovators.
