Samsung launches the 3G capable Gear S smartwatch in India, hefty price tag

Samsung's Gear S was announced at the company's Unpacked 2.0 event and has become one of the more anticipated smartwatches this year. With its 2-inch curved display and sleek design, the wearable sure has the looks, but what has tech-heads truly interested in the device is that it will have its independent 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. This means that the watch will be able to do voice calls and Internet browsing, without needing to be tethered to your phone, which is a feat that has yet to become widely adopted among smartwatches.

So, while price and release date for the device in the US is yet a mystery, it has just launched in India, together with the Galaxy Note 4. The Gear S is priced at the hefty $470 mark (Rs 28,900), which would probably make it the most expensive smartwatch available (before the Apple Watch Edition arrives, at least).

So, are you waiting for the Gear S? Does this price dishearten you a bit?
