The Gear S3 smartwatch recently suffered a
permanent price cut in the United States, which suggests Samsung wants to boost its sales before Apple or any other major player in the market comes up with a new product.
To make things simpler for less tech-savvy customers, Samsung published a chart that shows the level of compatibility the
Gear S3 smartwatches have with Android, iOS and Samsung devices.
As expected, Samsung recommends using the Gear S3 Classic and
Frontier with any of its Android smartphones for full compatibility. However, those using Android smartphones other than the ones made by Samsung are likely to get limited compatibility on some features like calls, messaging and email.
Regarding iOS devices, there are more issues here, as Samsung Gear S3 smartwatches do no support features such as email and
Samsung Pay over Bluetooth, the chart points out.
Things are even worse on the latest iOS devices like the iPhone 7, as there are compatibility issues with notifications, messaging, email, and Samsung Pay. On top of that, the rest of the features (calls, apps, S Health, watch face) are listed under “limited compatibility.”
