Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ pre-orders outperformed those of the S7 and Note 7 in South Korea

Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ pre-orders outperformed those of the S7 and Note 7 in South Korea
Battery problems aside, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was a pretty good device. Therefore, it performed extremely well during its pre-order period. The Note 7 set records for Samsung in South Korea, but according to industry sources, these have just been broken.

If said sources are to be believed, a total of 550,000 units of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have been pre-ordered in South Korea by Sunday. That's only two days after pre-orders initially opened. That's a massive 150,000 more than the Note7 before it, and whooping 5.5 times more than the Galaxy S7.

This is probably thanks to the high potential demand of the phone, as retail stores have received many pre-orders as well. Additionally, the country's three big carriers have launched massive marketing campaigns alongside Samsung, boosting pre-orders even further.

What must be kept in mind here is that, although the Galaxy S8 performs pretty well in South Korea, that doesn't guarantee the same reception in Western markets. We'll have to wait and see how the new Samsung flagship fares against the competition there, once it launches on April 21.

Lol, that was pretty obvious from the start. The beauty of the s8 (in black) alone will be enough to cast a spell on the most adamant of haters. I mean, we're talking the most beautiful phone of all time here. Damn!

"But Samsung is over" "They won't recover from the Note scandal" "They won't recover from the corruption scandal" "HTC is coming back to slay" (don't forget to buy the Ultra)

Not really considering that Samsung flagships still sell more than ALL the other android flagships combined. On top of that Samsung is about to have a record Q1...

The average income of someone in Korea is less than $600 USD per month. So if 1/2M+ already pre-ordered that's good. Consider this number as perspctive. In the Philippines the average working person makes what is equal to $350USD per month. They have a population of 150M+. Yet Apple sold less than 1.5M total phones there last year. While Samsung sold well over 10M. In all Asian countries, price is an issue. If the Galaxy S was only lets say $500USD, in Korea it would be its likely most sold phone. The S sale shave never fallen off a cliff. Samsung makes more phones vs the S. Is Apple ever goign to sell 300M phones? NOPE! You only want to count one model. You and your clan are stupid! If Samsung wanted to kill every phone on the market. They could drop ever selling model and just make the Galaxy S in 3 sizes and at 3 ranges of costs and fill them with the same features for the most part..Make a cheap Mini for $250, a mid-range for $500 and a high model for $900. It would sell well over 400M because all the other models would be gone.

Doesnt that apply to every othe phone too? Heck, apple could as well just make a mid range and low end phone and break sales record, again. Just face it, samsung is never gonna sell as much phones as apple not now not ever. With just one high end phone apple are the most valuable company and brand in the world. Now imagine apple decided to take the fight to samsung and sell mid to low end phones? Yeah, thats right. You already answered it yourself.

I typically don't respond to this thing and don't want to get into you guys fanboy war, but there is some things you said that isn't right. 1. You have to understand that Apple is the sole owner of iOS and only Apple makes iOS products. So if you want something with Apple's OS, you have to buy it FROM APPLE. You don't have any option if you want the latest and greatest fashion statement. (I have the iPhone 7+, Galaxy S8 currently in preorder.( 2. Apple makes and takes all the profit which is why their value is so high. I'm not gonna discredit anything Apple does, and there were once innovative but Samsung is much more stable. Yes, they have a 2 high end smart phones but that's their primary income source as none of their other products sale as well...at least in that price range. If the iPhone falls off one day, so will Apple's income. As appose to Samsung as they're invented in way more markets and industries than I can count. 3. Apple does have midrange low-end phones and their current one, (iPhone SE, iPhone 6 series no?) But do you see record-breaking sales? Just my opinion but whatever floats in these comments.

"You don't have any option if you want the latest and greatest fashion statement." This is where your opinion turned into fanboying. I don't buy iPhones because they are "fashion statements", I buy them because I want to. Besides, are you not buying the S8 because it looks nice? Generally speaking, the iPhone is going to perform better, get updates longer, and end up being less of a headache to protect due to it's less than ideal bezels'. I don't get where you're going with that... "...but Samsung is much more stable." What? Did you forget the Note 7? Has Samsung brainwashed people into completely nullifying it's existence? "...as none of their other products sale as well...at least in that price range." Last quarter they sold more tablets than anyone, their service revenue has doubled within a year, and their mac line sells most within the above $1000 category. What are you talking about? "If the iPhone falls off one day, so will Apple's income. As appose to Samsung as they're invented in way more markets and industries than I can count." Diversification has a way of confusing the masses sometimes. Having your hand in many pots only works if said hand gets something out of it. Samsung, much the same as Apple, makes almost all of their funding through two divisions. Hardly what you'd call diversified. "Apple does have midrange low-end phones and their current one, (iPhone SE, iPhone 6 series no?) But do you see record-breaking sales?" A) The SE is rather tiny. Many won't /can't go back to a phone that size. B) The iPhone 6 is three years old. Is it still getting updates? Sure. Is it still faster than 90% of Android phones? Absolutely. Should you buy one today if you can get something else? Hell no... it's three years old!!!

I respect you Kiko and appreciate your comment. My statement wasn't fanboyism, lets just get that out the way. I wasn't referring to EVERYONE, this is where your fanboyism clicks on. You can not tell me that most people, the general public, get an iPhone because of software updates and it runs faster. Let me go stereotype and say most people... most.. do it because of peer pressure from seeing them everywhere. I know that's partly why I got one. Please remember that my comments are made from a consumer and not a phone enthusiast standpoint like you and myself. Also, I'm buying the Galaxy S8 because of the features it offers, along with the design. But best believe my Spigen case is waiting for it on my dresser. Once again, from a general consumer standpoint. Also, my comments about stable from a source of income standpoint. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear on that. And again, you misinterpreted what I was meaning to stay: "Last quarter they sold more tablets than anyone, their service revenue has doubled within a year, and their mac line sells most within the above $1000 category. What are you talking about?" Hardware wise, Samsung is much more stable hardware wise. I'm aware of their success in other iPads, Macs, etc. and markets of that caliber but it doesn't have nearly the income percentage as the iPhone. Also, Macs are always going to succeed, being people in the creators field like myself use those computers for work. Then we can agree to disagree on the low-end to midrange field. Other than that i couldn't agree more. Anything else?

Lets face it, who in their right mind expected samsung to go out business because of the recall? And Lol, whoever expected htc to slay anything is a dreamer. Even microsoft has a better chance of slaying than htc at this point. Heck, even nokia will probably give samsung a run for their money (they won't) but htc? HT FREAKING C??? LMAO!!!

I read the phonearena facebook post, it says, "Despite losing the trust of some consumers, Samsung is still a powerhouse, and it's breaking its own records right now." The article starts with the battery problems of the Note 7. I also read the other two articles that phonearena mentioned in the source and those says nothing about how the Note 7 had battery issues or how Samsung lost its customers.

Pls, this is a warning. If you hate samsung pls i beg you don't put the gs8 in your hands. Whatever you do don't try it. But well, when you finally do, i'm sorry, your pocket will sing you a song and your money will dance to the beat.

I handled live S8 and S8+ phones. They are prety unimpressive and also tacky-looking. The S8+ is huge (I mean REALLY huge), and the S8 has a small battery. I for one, can't choose either one.

That comment sound so damn stupid. The s8 plus is huge to you yet the iPhone 7 plus with all its bezel is perfectly fine by you i bet? The iPhone 7 plus with 5.5in is almost the same size as the 8 plus with 6.2 inches. You've mentioned the s8 having small battery yet ever reviewer says they're getting better battery life than they were from the s7 edge. Dude you went in with your mind set that no matter what you're never going to like s8 and plus. I don't know why you even bother.

You must be 5'6" to consider the S8+ really huge.

I'm 6'5", and loved the S8 and Plus' in hand feeling. He might have little tiny Donald Trump hands.

LMAO! I'm saying man. I'm 6'3" & while I don't have Michael Jordan sized hands, the Note 7 & Note 4 were very easy to navigate with one hand without used one handed operation mode.

Exactly lol. Little Napoleon Trump is pissed at it, cause he went to try it out, and couldn't hold it comfortably.

I LOVED the Note 7 while I had it. I picked up the S8+ in Best Buy last week (demo model) and it feels like a Note 7 (minus the S-Pen of course). It is a gorgeous phone. Not crazy about the fingerprint sensor location but it's not a deal breaker. I'd chalk that up to learning curve. I do like the remove of the physical home button though (really liked that my LG phones used customizable, capacitive keys). I'm still waiting on the Note 8 but the S8 and S8+ bode well for me loving that device too.

I'm just concerned about one preorder....that AT&T says ships on the 18th. I need it, and my gear s3 needs it. My body is ready.

Curious how during every iphone or galaxy announcement, you say you aren't buying them then 2 days later, you've already pre ordered them. Happens each and every time tbh infact you've been saying since this past week that you won't be buying the note 8 and that you might not get the iphone edition, so lets see how that pans out. Well, as for me i'm buying the note 8/iphone edition regardless of whatever any other company does. I think its high time for an appropriate upgrade from me. Coming from the nexus 5 (third one).

@Banks. Curious? Let me say this, I'm a grown ass man, that works everyday and earns his own money. I notice lately, you keep following me around the site, hounding me about my choices. I'll buy what I want, and won't buy what I don't want. Also...generally every Galaxy and iPhone event, I usually post how excited I am about buying them. Do your research. If Apple delivers what I want (split view, slide over, picture in picture, and pencil support) then I'll buy it, if not I'll keep my 7 Plus. I don't see what's so hard to understand about that. The S8 Plus will be my android device for 2017, unless the Note is so overwhelming, that I just gotta have it (it won't be). Let's not make this into an irritating game of what's he gonna by this time. My choice, my money, my purchase. Enjoy your tech. Enjoy your day.

The iPhone is never gonna have split-view because it would go against Samsung's patent, and I doubt Apple would license it. Even without those features, you still bought the iPhone 7+. The fact is, since you also buy the Galaxy and it has those features already, it isn't a big deal if the iPhone has it or not.

In all fairness, it happens to me as well. Everytime something gets released, I say that I'm not buying it, and I would mean it when I say that. Then, the more I keep reading and watching videos about it, the more I want to upgrade, and I usually do end up upgrading.

25. darkkjedii

Posts: 30900; Member since: Feb 05, 2011

Exactly Maher. He keeps chasing me around, like I have no right to buy what I want lol. Like dude, just stop. I'm gonna buy what I want, and a bought an S8 Plus cause I want it. I'm a two platform guy, I don't own multiple phones from the same platform, so having an S8 and Note 8 won't happen. Selling my S8, and buying a Note 8 is a small possibility, but there's just not gonna be a big enough difference to do so. Plus around the time the Note 8 drops, my wife and I will be one our 4th anniversary cruise, and that puppy is hella expensive this time. The Caribbean islands. I'll have both phone with me to take hella pics and vids. +1

I made it to town to Best buy Saturday and got to play with both. OMG you are right, I love the s8+. I didn't get to play with it as long as I wanted only about 5 min because of the other 8 people behind me wanting to check it out lol.

To joke, Dark said in his own post, he's the wife! His actual wife wears the pants. ;-) She says, no Dark, you cant buy any more phones this year. You spend to much open gadgets. My wife said something to me once. She said - Gosh you buy so many gadgets. I said yep I sure do. It's my money I pay all the bills. I work everyday and this is my treat. Also I grew up in a very poor household. My dad had 3 kids and my mom had 4 and I was the only one born between them. My dad made sure we had what we needed...a place to stay and food to eat and clothes on our backs. I didnt get my first toy until I was 5 and my sister bought it for me. I said when I got old enough to get mt own job with my own money, that anything my eyes saw, and I wanted; I would have it. I don't care what anyone says about it. My mom use to talk about me buying gadgets too as a teen. I was like, well its my money I work for it. I help you all out and I buy what I want. She always said I should save. I was like why? Sometimes I wished I did. But I more than made up for it.
