Report: Apple won't release a new 9.7-inch iPad Air this year
Can the world survive without a new 9.7-inch Apple iPad introduced this year? It might have to if Chinese publication Economic Daily News is right. A reliable source in the past, the Economic Daily News says that Foxconn has received orders for the 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro, and for the Apple iPad mini 4.

The buzz from Apple's camp is that the tech titan wants the larger iPad Pro to be its flagship slate this year, which could mean that a new Apple iPad Air gets delayed until 2016. Another possible scenario has Apple offering a slightly improved iPad Air this year, similar to what the company did with the Apple iPad mini 3 last year.

Leaked images over the last few months reveal that the iPad Pro should come with four speakers, one near each corner. In addition, a second connector port has been seen on the side of the tablet in some images. This port (possibly a USB Type-C) is in a perfect position to allow the device to be charged while standing up in a dock. A report published earlier this year by the Wall Street Journal said that the iPad Pro would come with a stylus and Apple would offer an optional keyboard and mouse for the product.

Apple is expected to promote the iPad Pro as the perfect tablet for the enterprise and educational markets.

Well said. They gave it enough power to be relevant for at least 2 more years, so it's not a big deal. I think they wanna showcase the pro, and you know how Apple works. It wouldn't surprised me one bit, if they shelf the 9.7 this year.

I'm so glad they gave it 2GB of RAM. Loving mine so far.

Agreed, the Air 2 is a whole different animal. I love it, and can't wait to get ios 9 on it. I was gonna download the beta, but decided against it.

I'm eager to get split-screen multitasking on it.

I have the beta on mine, and it runs like a top.The split screen multitasking is the best implementation I have used in mobile (probably better on a Surface Pro 3, but I haven't used one), but the betas are restricted to native iOS apps. Third-party apps will be able to use it once iOS 9 launches.

Apple is being stingy with the best they can offer and that kind of gets me angry. This current iPad we should of had at least with the first iPad Air. Idk but I'm the brink of moving on completely.

Their trickle feeding has made me gravitate even more to android. Although I'll never completely leave ios, as I have so much vested in it, I no longer love it like I used to, and have started using Android more. My s6 edge is my backup phone, as far as the main number goes, but it's now my go to phone as more and more files are brought to it. I downloaded smart switch, and am in the process of importing my ios files over. Apple has disappointed me too much, and made me open to making #2 #1. Their bad.

Mr Jedi I'm with you on this one. most of my friends and family use iMessage so ill stick around because of that but its a waste of money to keep buying their products and not receiving the best. personally i feel robbed and thats why i haven't bought an apple watch :(

100% agreed. I'm completely on the fence with this years iphone. If it doesn't get 100% of ios 9, and get the specs I want, it's a Note 5 for me.

I thought 1 gig was enough to open 1 app at a time for ios users or sheep? :)

IPad Air 2 surely get every advantage of iOS 9 because 2gig of ram, it will be disappointment if it's not. Still happy with my iPad 4, lucky me it's still on iOS 7 & rarely met any problem (probably a bit where safari crashes quite often)

This is actually quite smart since it pressures people to try the iPad Pro Personally I hope the iPad Mini 4 has 2GB RAM, an A9 and has Split Screen

I bought an Air 2, just in case.

I highly doubt they would spot selling it IMO a 12" iPad is a much harder sell against the cheaper Surface 3 The Air 2 would still be popular IMO "futureproof" for another ~4 years (only limiting factor is the battery, it will degrade over time)

I think they'd cater to different crowds. Apple fan base will be drawn to it.

True, the iPad Pro is a big tablet (from current rumors) The Surface 3 is a laptop in a tablet form Better in terms of wider software choice, but worse in terms of tablet usability

So they are going to take the 9.7 one away leaving the option to force Yount on choose bigger or smaller. It's going to backfire in their face. They said for years the 9.7 was a perfect size, now they've made a small one and now a big one. How much is it going to cost? Wait, doesn't matter because I would think people want a tablet to be more portable. No one wants to carry a 12" tablet around. I have the Note Pro and unless I really need it I leave it at homw, unless I am carry a bag. When I take a road trip then yes it's in the car. But walking around with it? Nah. Apple is making a huge mistake and therws no pun intended.

The article says they won't be making one this year. CAN YOU NOT READ. If they don't make one this year, it means they are forcing u to choose big or small. Dude can you not read what the title says?

I have seen you comment "let people choose what tablet dize they want". And they alteady have that option. Stop it with your shallow hypocritical comments.

You still dont get. YES LET THEM CHOOSE THE SIZE THEY WANT. Make all 3 sizes just like everyone else. Here is a fact I will share with you. 10" tablets are not the perfect size. Actually 7" and 8" are. Apple sold a lot of 9.7" because that was the only option. The only reason the iPad Mini had slow adoption was due to every one already owning the 9.7" and because in the Mini, Apple put half-assed hardware into the first ne by using the iPhone 5's hardware and because they didnt put an iPS display on the first mini. Now, if they dont make a 9.7" model this year with updated specs, sure everyoen will be forced to buy last years 9.7" or get a Mini or go bigger for the 12". Again, the article says they wont be making a new 9.7" model. Which means if they make a new Mini this year, they will be indeed forcing you to choose big or small. Knowing Apple, they will shove the iPhone 5S parts into he new mini which would again take it off the list for some as the hardware is outdated by 3 years now. Apple shoudl offer 3 sizes, but they all should be new. The iPad Pro should be a Quadcore, while the 9.7 could still be the tri-Core and the Mini would be the dualcore option. They all should have the same A8 chipset as well. Forcing people to buy an older iPad, simply because you want to force a 12" model to insure it sells is evil. Other OEM who have a 12" tablet, didnt stop making the 10" and 7" model to force you to choose. They still made the other sizes new and available.

Why not keep all 3 sizes? Everyone else has a small medium and large, and the large doesn't sell as good as medium and small. This is a dumb move. Phablets are already ratting into the tablet market. It's gonna start at 799 I bet. All for size. So what it has a pen. First they wanted to kill the prn, now they have one. Apple said, 10 inch is the perfectbsize. That all oemd would abandon large and small tablets to make 10 inch ones. Yet Apple is doing the opposite. Same as they did with the phone. Hypocrites. I haven't heard anyone asking for a larger ipad unless in runs OSX. Even with Note-like features, it would be more limited. I bet they have the 9.7 inch model on production standby just in case it doesn't sell good in a month. Just watch.
