Pre-registrations for the HTC Desire 820s in China surpass 1.2 million units

Pre-registrations for the HTC Desire 820s in China surpass 1.2 million units
The HTC Desire 820s, a mid-range handset powered by the 64-bit octa-core MediaTek 6752 CPU, has scored pre-orders in excess of 1.26 million units in China, according to HTC China. The information was posted on social media site Qzone. Unlike pre-orders in the U.S., the number only shows an indication of interest in the handset, and does not reveal units reserved with a credit card payment. There is no obligation on the part of those pre-ordering the handset to actually make a purchase of it.

The difference between the HTC Desire 820 and the HTC Desire 820s is found under the hood. The former uses an octa-core Snapdragon 615, which also features 64-bit processing, but runs at a lower clock speed of 1.5GHz. The rest of the specs for both models are the same, and include a 5.5-inch screen with 720 x 1280 resolution. The handsets carry 2GB of RAM inside, along with 16GB of native storage. When it comes to both the back and front-facing cameras, the phones are well endowed. The rear camera on the handsets weigh in at 13MP while the front-facing "selfie" shooter has an 8MP sensor. The Desire 820 and Desire 820s share the front-facing BoomSound stereo speakers, and a 2600mAh battery powers the phones. Both models support LTE connectivity.

HTC has only 50,000 units of the Desire 820s to sell when the handset is actually released, and the first 5000 buyers will receive a $65 USD discount off the price of $294 USD. Great news for HTC and for us the consumers. The fiercer the competition gets, the better and lower priced products we'll get. Hopefully my next phone will be the m9.

I think with 1.2 Million pre orders they better start making some more phones. How did they underestimate the demand by such a wide margin and only have 50,000 units ready? I would like to see HTC do well but that sounds like poor planning.
