Poll results: Have you ever damaged your smartphone (accidental drops, bumps)?

16comments

Damage to your smartphone caused by drops and bumps is quite commonplace – too commonplace. If you're lucky, you get away with a scuff or a small dent. If not, it's off to the nearest service center. And then you sit tight and wait.

It's really no surprise then that the majority of us use a case or cover to protect our smartphones, at least according to a poll of ours from back in March. Quite frankly, it's probably not even essential for us to back this particular claim – all you need to do is just look around. Cases are everywhere. But does that mean your device is safe from damage? And, on the other end of the spectrum, do all the brave (we're naive, too) souls that dare run around the world's playground without protection always suffer the worse?

According to the results of our poll, not really. But your chances aren't great – two thirds of people who chose to go commando report having damaged their phone in one way or another, while the remainder claim that their phone is still whole and unspoiled. Things are different in the other camp – 43% of people with cases on still report having damaged their phones, but the remaining majority (57%) are well served by them.

These results shouldn't surprise anyone. Obviously, while most cases don't make your phone indestructible, they do help keep your phone whole, and if you're thinking of going without one with your next phone, then now you know what your chances are.
