Nokia's latest video ad is a heart-warming bridge between the past and the present

When it comes to video ads, few phone manufacturers actually succeed to convey empathy and emotion. Many rely on the shock factor that has a certain barbaric charisma to it but proves lackluster of any artistic factor in the long run (looking at you, OnePlus), while few inspirational TV spots in-between remain memorable, like Samsung's great ostrich commercial from a few months back.

Now Nokia wants to join the fold of the latter by coming up with an equally-inspirational ad that's way better than the average one you would normally see. It features two best buddies and follows their mutual lifelong shenanigans, starting from teaming up against hordes of bullies and ending up with the best events in a man's life - marriage and welcoming their firstborns.

Of course, given that this is a TV spot, Nokia's devices play a main part in the whole thing, as they are the phones of choice the two friends use. As you might imagine, the classic Nokia 3310 makes a lengthy cameo in the first part of the clip, but the commercial ends with Nokia's newest devices, a load of which just debuted at MWC 2018.

There was an article on GSMArena yesterday saying that none of the new Nokia devices would be coming to North America.

To be shown the present modern time, those two guys, should marry each other at the end of the video! Nokia dropped the ball with this.

I don't feel anything Nokia in the new Nokia smartphones from MHD, just the name & stock Android, they should add something special about Nokia

First, it's HMD. Second, what special feature do you want? Alien technology?

How about the way it flips-around the selfie-shot at 1:29? Does that make it any more special?

Nice homage to the past glory of Nokia and bringing the present front and center. Thanks HMD for bring a once huge mobile phone company back to the masses. Love the Nokia tune being playing so poetic on the piano to end the commercial. Nice touch.

Nokia should up their camera game. And stick to Android one. Nice Pixel alternatives. Maybe add a custom launcher and a few tweaks like OnePlus.

Trying too hard to be emotional. If it would be more subtle I would really like it.

You had to be a pretty rich kid to own a 3310 when it was still new - or ANY mobile phone in that time period. Kids with cellphones was not a mainstream idea like it is now - so that video is a tad unrealistic?
