Nokia teases December 5 event in Dubai; could unveil the Nokia 8.1
After holding multiple hardware events throughout 2018, HMD Global – the company behind Nokia-branded smartphones – has announced one final event which is set to take place on December 5 in Dubai.

Nokia teases December 5 event in Dubai; could unveil the Nokia 8.1
HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, confirmed the unveiling event via Twitter and also posted a teaser image alongside the hashtag “#ExpectMore.” The company hasn’t yet confirmed what it will announce at the event, but increasing the brightness of the teaser does reveal what appears to be the Nokia 7.1. This would suggest that the smartphone will become available to purchase in the United Arab Emirates shortly after the event.

Now, because the Nokia 7.1 was announced last month and can already be found on Nokia’s website in the region, it seems unlikely HMD Global is holding a release event solely for this phone. Instead, the company will likely announce a new product. And if recent leaks are accurate, it could be the Nokia 8.1.

This smartphone is set to be the international variant of China’s Nokia X7 and is expected to be unveiled by the end of the year. The device comes equipped with a notched display and is powered by the Snapdragon 710, meaning it will be priced just below current flagships.

I'm here for it! Definitely have been impressed with the way HMD has been handling the Nokia brand on smartphones and feature phones. They've become a top 10 global smartphone OEM in just two years, and they are still growing. They are also a top 5 brand in Europe with their Nokia branded smartphones. Great build quality, fast updates and stock Android have been some of the main factors for their success. Kudos to HMD, and I'm looking forward to the release of the Nokia 8.1.

I really hope Nokia does something about the confusing names. They are getting just as bad as LG.

There is nothing confusing about the names at all. They are pretty simple. Example: The Nokia 8.1 comes after the Nokia 8. It couldn’t be any easier.

First of all Nokia 8.1 is coming after Nokia 8 Sirocco. The Nokia 8.1 is actually supposed to be Nokia 7.1 plus, And Nokia 8.1 should be a budget flagship just like original Nokia 8.

First of all the 8 and the 8 Sirroco share some of the same attributes, like the SoC. I already know that the 8.1 is supposed to be the 7.1 Plus, as I am a "fixture" on Nokia articles here and elsewhere. The 8 series that HMD produes for their Nokia branded smartphones is now changed to upper mid-range from flagship, leaving the soon to be released 9 series as the flagship. By the way, nothing you said disputes the fact the naming scheme isn't at all confusing, as I said.

That essentially just proves my point about the names btw. If the 8.1 was supposed to be something else yet is used for the 7 Plus, then that proves that the names are entirely confusing.

It doesn't prove that, as the 8.1 follows the 8 and 8 Sirroco. It's actually pretty simple.

No it's not. It literally says in the article that it's supposed to be the X7 which was the 7.1 Plus? Yeah it's a confusing mess like I said before.

Yes it is. There was literally an article posted on PA a little while ago explaining all of this:https://www.phonearena.com/news/Nokia-X7-global-launch-Nokia-8-1_id110216 So no, it’s not confusing at all. It’s all rather simple. You just want to complain for the sake of complaining.

Yup, see what I mean? The naming of the Nokia phones are ridiculously complicated and convuluted.

But you aren't exactly an unbiased party though.

You aren't unbiased when it comes to your OEM's of choice.

Says the guy that continues to ignore and deflect from the plethora of issues that Google has faced with its Pixel line and that the Essential Phone has faced, all of which are documented facts and not “opinions”.
