New "made for Bond" Sony Xperia phone (Z5?) could be announced in the next several months

New
Sony already launched a new flagship smartphone this year (the Xperia Z3+ / Z4), but that doesn't mean it's done with flagships for 2015. Just like in the past years, Sony is likely going to introduce another flagship handset in the second half of 2015. This is expected to be the Xperia Z5, which might be accompanied by an Xperia Z5 Compact.

The Xperia Z5 could be marketed as a "made for Bond" smartphone, or at least that's what two recently revealed promo images are suggesting. The images show the name of an "Xperia *5" associated with the upcoming Spectre 007 film - the 24th film in the James Bond series, which will be distributed by Columbia Pictures (a studio owned by Sony Pictures Entertainment).

Of course, the handset mentioned on these promo images might not be the Z5. But, since this is expected to be Sony's next flagship, it's hard to believe that the company will want to promote another smartphone as being "made for Bond."

According to recent rumors, the Xperia Z5 might be powered by a Snapdragon 810 processor, sporting a 1080 x 1920 pixels screen (just like the Xperia Z3+.). However, nothing's confirmed yet, so don't let these apparently unexciting details put you off.

Spectre, the new Bond movie, will debut on November 6. We assume that Sony will announce the Xperia Z5 before the new film hits theaters.

The revised version of the 810 is supposed to be better, besides phone manufacturers that have seen the overheating problems in other phones will probably have taken extra steps to mitigate this problem, including better ways to dissipate heat. It doesn't make good business sense to sell a product you know will have issues unless you take steps to prevent those issues(preferably a solution other than extreme throttling).

And yet basically all phones with SD810 are hot as hell with massive thermal throttling.

Tsmc has started the mass production 16nm finfet and i strongly believe that if not S820 then Sony might be using the new S810 buid on 16nm finfet process of Tsmc. There are rumors that first S820 devices will be seen in Q1 2016.

Qualcomm would need to redesign the whole SoC to make it in 16nm process. SD810 v2.1 is just slightly better optimized but still heats up quite a lot.

Sony isn't that stupid. Trust me

Well... they might not be stupid, but they sure make a lot of mistakes. Support for budget and some midrange devices for one has certainly hurt them. And sticking to the 6 month cycle hasn't helped. However, when it comes to the 810 chip Sony and Qualcomm are equal to blame. Sony could've gone with the 808, or just not released a phone to begin with. In the end, Sony isn't dumb, but they don't seem to be taking the necessary steps to be better than what they currently are now.

Sony isn't stupid? lets see, Z2, Z3 and Z3+/Z4 with the same design, the same technology, the same features and the battery life gets worst the newer the flagship is and still charging a premium price... sounds stupid to me.

I'll upgrade if it gets SD820, IMX230, and a big battery.

It's not going to get the 820, it's not out any time soon, you be in luck if it's out for dec 2015

"next several months" .. Pretty big window of guesstimation there.

Lol, so basically the Z3+ in a different casing and a bigger battery. It's not just the design that must change.

1080p is ok, since everything is native 720p or 1080p more resolution is gimmick.

Anyway, recentĀ leaksĀ have suggested that the Xperia Z5 will be unveiled in September this year. It is said to be powered by the yet-to-be-released Snapdragon 820 chipset, come with 4GB RAM, pack in a 4,500mAh battery, and feature a fingerprint recognition system.
