HTC U11 is now receiving the Android 8.0 (Oreo) update in Taiwan

The Taiwanese version of the HTC U11 is now in the process of receiving Android 8.0 (Oreo) through an OTA software update. The update weighs in at 1.33GB, and HTC recommends that once you get the notification that it has arrived on your phone, you connect to a Wi-Fi network. At the same time, make sure that your battery is charged up fully before starting the updating process.

Android 8.0 features Picture-in-Picture which allows you to watch videos on the screen while still doing other tasks with an app running in the background. There are also redesigned and new emoji, changes to the Settings menu, and adoptive icons which can be different shapes depending on the phone. The November Android Security update is included, and this specific update also includes Voice over Wi-Fi support for subscribers to Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom.

We still haven't a clue when to expect the update to the global version of the HTC U11, although with today's news, it could happen in the not too distant future. After the U11 receives the new Android build, next on the list to be updated is the HTC U Ultra followed by the HTC 10. The HTC U11+, unveiled earlier this month, will come out of the box with Android 8.0 pre-installed when it is launched on November 20th. That phone, however, will not be offered by HTC in the states.
