HMD kicks off Android 8.0 Oreo beta program for Nokia 8

HMD has just announced it will soon start a beta program for Android Oreo for Nokia 8. The so-called Nokia phones beta labs will allow those fans to test software updates before they are released to the masses.

The first smartphone that will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update is probably the Nokia 8 since HMD is about to start testing it. However, Nokia 3, 5 and 6 will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo as well, although that might not happen this year.

The only requirement for getting in the beta program is that you own a Nokia 8 smartphone. Also, don't forget to sign in to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo beta build on your smartphone. HMD doesn't mention if there's a limited number of testers that get accepted in the beta, so we must assume that anyone with a working Nokia 8 will be allowed to download it.

To remind you again: Don't fall into the trap, to make every possible OS major upgrade. If you want your new smartphone to work smoothly do not upgrade the OS more than once. Even never better. Every new OS upgrade is made with the hardware in mind. Thank me later.

Looks like I'll definitely be importing a Nokia 8 soon.

I think for a manufacturer that uses just stock Android, the update process is again painfully slow. The Nokia 3,5 and 6 may not be updated this year? Why? Looks like in Android land, if you want timely updates, you really need a Pixel or -lately- a flagship Sony...

They’ll be getting it in the form of a beta soon, most before the year is out:
