Sure enough, this morning Google posted a statement on a Reddit page that focuses on the aftermath of the June update on the Pixel 2
XL. It says that Google is aware of the issue and has already "identified a fix" that it will be disseminating over "the coming weeks." Until that fix is pushed out, Google suggests that Pixel
2 XL owners set the Ambient Display to "always on," which should hold off users for now.
We are aware that some Pixel 2 XL users are experiencing occasional delays with wake ups. We have now identified a fix which will be rolling out in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the problem can be worked around by setting the Ambient Display to "always on" on your Pixel 2 XL.
The June Android security update was pushed out on June 4th
. In addition to the latest security patch, the update including some functional updates that improved a number of issues such as Bluetooth LE performance, antenna switching in areas with weak coverage, Wi-Fi connectivity with certain Wi-Fi access points, and the consistency of the phone's Always-On display, and proximity sensor.
