Last month, we told you that the Gionee GN8001 had been certified in China by TENAA. That model could be the Gionee M5 Plus, which is being unveiled on December 21st according to a teaser posted on the company's verified Weibo site. If so, the phablet will feature a Gorilla Glass protected 6-inch AMOLED display with a 1080 x 1920 resolution. An unknown octa-core 1.3GHz CPU will be driving the handset, which will include 3GB of RAM, along with 32GB of internal memory. A 128GB capacity microSD slot is available for those seeking additional memory.

The camera on back will be an 8MP or a 13MP snapper according to TENAA, with a front-facing 5MP camera at the ready to shoot selfies and handle video chats. There is a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button, and a massive 5020mAh battery is on board. Android 5.1 is pre-installed. The phone measures 8.2mm thick, but weighs in at a hefty 206g. That is not surprising considering the huge battery that is inside.

The Gionee M5 Plus will offer 4G LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and USB OTG connectivity. The phone will be offered in Silver, and important details like pricing and availability should be revealed exactly one week from today.
